To me it’s kind of like someone saying “Hitler was awful!” because they think he let too many Jews get away. I technically agree with the sentence, but I really do not.
But they are the party of supporting the troops. Assholes.
Exactly the point.
And he’s trying to frame it as if we’d be doing those veterans a favor because Gitmo is such a famously luxurious destination. After all, American taxpayers spared to expense to provide… a soccer field?
Golly, I can’t begin to imagine what a flat rectangle of grass must have set the government back to build. Clearly we’ve been pampering all those people who have been locked up without charges for close to a quarter century now.
It’s not enough for them to run the VA on fumes, but proudly wear a flag pin and say “thank you for your service” like a broken record?
Marjorie Taylor Greene has filed a motion to remove Mike Johnson as Hose Speaker.
Who could have predicted?
Hakim Jefferies has said that the Democrats will protect Johnson (which, WTF would they back someone who is so patently an extremist as Speaker!!!), so we’ll see if that’s gonna be the case…
I suppose the hope is that if they back Johnson, he’ll be more amendable to working with Democrats…
I wonder what he gets for that. If the Speaker relies on Dem votes do they control a big piece of the agenda and what legislation gets passed?
Also- they need to stop the shutdown in 12 hours.
Yeah I think it may have a lot to do with the shutdown—if Greene is able to give Johnson the boot before Congress passes the budget then everything grinds to a halt until they can get their shit together again.
ETA: OK, the House just passed the budget so I guess that crisis is momentarily averted unless the Senate does something crazy. I wonder if the Dems are still going to protect Johnson now or let his party delve deeper into self-destruction.
Dammit, just as Trump is facing a series of crushing financial judgements someone comes along with a merger deal for Truth Social that could personally net him three billion dollars??
That still requires SEC approval and they are already investigating it for shenanigans, so odds that the merger goes through are not great.
Fingers crossed. I’m sick of watching rich assholes continuing to fall upward even as they’re working toward society’s downfall.
No deals with the devil please. Dems are only a few seats away from majority.
Yeah, which is what I think that Jefferies was banking on when he said it… but as we know, Johnson is an ideological extremist, who wants to shove through his agenda no matter what.
Well, there is still a lot shit that needs their attention, so…
Which will likely only happen with the election. We can’t bank on more Republicans leaving.
They can take a more active role in that last bit than they currently are, though. It pisses me off that they use rhetoric emphasizing that democracy is at stake but won’t take action to deal with the House GOP in real time.
What specifically do you have in mind? I don’t know how them voting Johnson out themselves would help for example? It’s entirely possibly someone else just as or more extreme would end up with the job (as already happened). So what else do you suggest there? It’s not like they’re not doing their usual work of giving speeches on the floor when something comes up for a vote, say…
Meanwhile, we have them showing up the GOP in various committee meetings (like in the one about impeaching Biden).
Some of their “inaction” is the media not covering what they’re doing.
I don’t think removing Johnson accomplishes anything. Oddly enough, he’s shown he can negotiate with them and I get the impression he doesn’t want to bring govt to a screeching halt, unlike previous GOP speakers.
I’m talking about broader efforts, like removing directly seditious and traitorous GOP legislators like Grassley and Sessions.
