Lauren Boebert said she gave birth to her child in a truck, therefore parental leave should be banned

It doesn’t matter if we showered her with praise and treated her like a princess - she’s going to do that ANYWAYS…

People really need to start figuring out that no amount of appeasement is going to please these people. They are out for total control of the country so they can ethnically cleanse it. We need to stop pretending otherwise.

After the last presidential term, and the latest round of representatives, I’m starting to wish this was a requirement.

Her base will always support her regardless of any perceived respect from others outside the smattering of trailer homes and mountain cabins she represents. (And the ranches, ski chalets and decked out mountain lairs of the selfish rich MAGAts.)

There are plenty of more eloquent, well-educated fascists. the problem isn’t education or lack thereof… the problem is the fascists.

I pooped my pants, therefore we don’t need toilets.

Sure, why not.

Much like the law of goats, it hardly matters, due to the end result. And I still would say education is no guarantee of not being a fascist.

It’s not possible to change her or her base. I’m not arguing for that.

Rather, reacting to her reactionary tribalism with same accomplishes worse than nothing. It empowers her.

People love their trucks just like others love their Teslas. It’s not a meaningful characterization. Not all truckists are ignorant bumpkins, not all teslerati are efete liberals. I’d rather a critique of her hateful idiocy be more substantive.

We’re not hating on her because she or her husband drives a truck, but because she says she’s against paid family leave just because she gave birth in a truck.

Can I call that a specious argument, or is that hating on her lack of formal education?

Do you really think the problem here is her truck? Or that that’s what people are annoyed with? Her hypocrisy is the problem. Her seeking to make life harder for the rest of us is the problem. Her attack on programs that will help families is the problem. None of us are hatin’ on her cause she drives a truck.

I spend a shitload of my time in these political threads reminding people that there are many progressive people in the south (since that sort of lazy stereotyping sometimes passes for political insights), who are doing the hard work of trying to improve life for all of us. And some of those people probably drive trucks. Like the progressive people who do back the land projects, such as growing food for their communities.

I’ve owned a couple of pickup trucks in my life. At no time reading through this discussion did it occur to me that the people criticizing Boebert for her hateful, idiotic and cruel stance on family leave were actually making a classist argument against people who own pickup trucks.

Likewise, when I pointed out earlier that she dropped out of high school to have her first child I wasn’t trying to shame her for being an uneducated teen mom, I was pointing out the hypocrisy of a woman who clearly DID need to take time off to deal with the challenges of being a new parent.

Lauren Boebert is like a human turd in your mailbox: someone’s trying to send you a message – they might feel there was no other way to get your attention – but prodding and sniffing the turd itself won’t advance the conversation. And if you do it long enough, the part about how it’s hard to communicate with you will start to carry some weight.

Boebert’s voters probably aren’t the nicest people, but that’s kind of beside the point. If that many people have been driven to the mailbox-shitting stage, there are many more who have higher standards of decency, but feel at least as frustrated.

Everyone freaks out about how this frustration is boiling over on the right, but IMO the bigger problem is that there is far more frustration on the left, and it isn’t boiling over, because people who think are easier to lawyer into going along with the fake consensus peddled by the New York Times. It should be normal people who get outraged at the lamestream media, not Fox viewers.

Very impressive. For her fifth kid maybe she’ll just yank it out while driving and toss it out the window while she films herself for tiktok.

That’s a good critique.

She’s not only ignorant of how it does work; but pretending that it works in a way that she would be staunchly against if it in fact did.

Since it doesn’t, in fact, have a role with much immediate impact on logistics entities, producers with material or labor shortages, etc. it’s absolutely terrible that Buttigieg isn’t out there personally unloading containers or something.

If, of course, Buttigieg were actually Biden’s Consumer Goods Commissar executing The Party’s 4-year Plan for Abundant Christmas; she’d be busy crying about anything he did being big gummint overreach.
