As first rounds go, that’s a doozy. It’s horrible for all of the anxiety and panic this has already caused, but hopefully some good will come out of the haze.

I am glad a lawsuit was filed, but I am to filled with sorrow and rage over this bullshit to feel hopeful at all.

Sado-Conservatism is big in Texas.

A number of prosecutors have said straight out that they won’t comply with the governor’s declaration. The governor’s office doesn’t have the right to just arbitrarily declare something - much less best medical practices - to be child abuse*. Who the fuck would go along with this? Oh, right, fascists who were eager to persecute trans kids already.

*Hey, if this works for the state, why stop there? Why not declare raising children in a non-Christian or non-Republican household to be child abuse? I’m sure there are people in the state who’d be willing to go along with those prosecutions too.

Too late.

Our daughter is trans. She suffered anguish for years before she was ready to come out to us, her parents. Luckily we live in a slightly saner country than the US, but even so, I fear for her safety, especially when she travels. The news coming out of places like Texas fills me with horror - this is exactly what fascism looks like.

As has been pointed out by smarter people than me, America might need a new Green Book; but expanded from places hostile to Black people, to include places just straight up hostile to life.

Your experience, even though you luckily don’t live in Texas, still underscores what’s wrong with what Abbott is doing. You’re being the best parent you can be. You’re supporting your child. You’re working to make your child’s life better.

It’s quite clear who’s really guilty of abusing children, and it’s not parents like you.

Who would go along with that? We’ll Justice Amy Comer Barrett, Clarence Thomas, Sam Alito and Neil Gorsuch? We may be one Roberts or Kavanaugh away from Christian Sharia Law.

I’m trying. He’s up for election this year.

Voted in the primary today. There was a line at the Democrat side. No waiting on the Republican side.

Be interesting to see how any of the 7 people running against Abbott for the Repub nomination do.

Your voting place has a Democrat and a Republican side? That doesn’t seem like a good idea.

It’s the primaries, where each party determines who will be their candidate in the actual election in November.

Texas has open primaries. You can vote in whatever party primary you choose, without having to join the party in question, but you can only vote in one.

So each polling place has a Republican and a Democrat line to get the ballot for that party. You pick the one you want, get the ballot, and vote.

it is a bit weird they don’t have one line and then let the software present the two options in private. since it feels they could, it’s got to be meant as a deliberate dissuasion.

do you vote per district or per county? ( maybe it’s the same thing since the most populous counties tend to hold cities which swing democratic )
