Very cool! I’ll have to keep an eye out for them.

So, are any of the profits from this set going to any LGBTQ charities? Or is this just more corporate performative diversity?

Yes they are. Please don’t shit on something that celebrates diversity and inclusivity.

StoneLegowall. That’s cool. I like to see even tiny steps towards a more inclusive culture.

Are those fabulous hair pieces new designs? I’ve never seen them before, though haven’t been keeping up with the Lego minifig scene for many many years…

Is there? Cuz I’m looking at their official page, and it doesn’t say anything about charities/donations/profit splitting - just that LEGO has “…partners […] to support employees who identify as LGBTQIA+ and allies across the company”.

…which is great, don’t get me wrong. But I’d love to see some of the money from this actually go directly to those partners - and when that’s the plan, companies are usually really loud about that being the case. The store page is totally silent on it.

If you’ve got a source, I’d really love to read it.

This should provide Tucker Carlson with a week’s worth of tv shows.

I take it that you don’t believe that toys promoting diversity are a social good in and of themselves?

That’s a good point.

“Lego as a whole has said it is committed to a diverse and inclusive workplace, and already partners with Workplace Pride, Stonewall, and Open for Business in terms of supporting LGBTQIA+ employees. It also supports UK charity Diversity Role Models, which aims to educate children about inclusivity and empathy.”

So LEGO already supports these groups, funded by model sales, of which this is just one, and now they are stating, publicly, that they support LGBTQIA+ adults and kids and will get a massive amount of hate coming their way because of it.

Feel free to not buy it or complain “it’s not enough” but seeing as every other company is doing a grand total of fuck all I think this is awesome.

I love this take. I was really surprised that they went with monochrome mini figs. Those are going to be pretty valuable. Unfortunately, like most innovation sets, the goddamn eBay pirates are going to buy all of these up and triple the price. Be sure to get them on launch day if you’re interested!

I recognize all but two of them (black and purple). A lot of the newer hairstyles and accessories were developed for the branded sets like Harry Potter, Avengers, et al. Same with specialty pieces that end up finding decorative or structural uses later on. It’s made me wonder a few times why the IP holders don’t have an agreement restricting certain pieces to their properties (Gandalf’s hat, for instance is pretty distinct, but I’ve seen it turn up elsewhere). It’s a great way to expand Lego’s parts list and one of the main things I look for when buying sets for Little Peas 2 & 3 (#1 tried to like Lego, but DGAF now).

Representation is itself a powerful form of support. Kids who do not fit into heteronormative boxes need all the positive examples they can get, especially when there are so many adults willing to shit on them just for being different.

$35 in the US store. A little more than I expected for a very basic set, but not too bad. The minifigures are probably the price driver.

10 year old kid after watching his wealthy parents watch Tucker’s segment on Lego promoting homosexuality:

“If you buy me those sh!tty Lego knock-offs, I swear to god I will have the cleaning woman smother you both in your sleep.”
