Behold the Dougal cake, a staple of many birthday parties in Ireland and the UK in the '80’s (take a Swiss roll, add icing/frosting, smarties for a face). This is a much more professional job!

My favorite cake of all. Not ornate… but elegant. A flourless chocolate cake. Effing flourless. No flour. A chocolate cake that means business. (It came to mind since a little later we’ll be off to Whole Foods for a few things… and a flourless chocolate cake.)
