You’re right of course. No one has ever been convicted of a crime, ever.
Let’s say “fail to make a ton of cash”, then. Casinos are pretty reliable that way. Usually.
Made a ton of cash that was diverted before it hit the books, and therefore looked like “failed to make a ton of cash.”
I said that tongue in cheek. No need to get wound up.
I am WOUND UP!
Bzzzzzzzzzzzz!!!
Agreed.
And yet:
Don’t get me wrong, he and Kissinger [who is not dead yet] have heapin’ big plates o’ karma to deal with.
Something something broken clocks, right twice a day, something etc. etc.
Egad, he’s 97. Well I don’t think he’ll have to put up with karma for very long.
Oh… karma has a way… for the living or the dead, there’s really nowhere to run, nowhere to hide.
I speak only as a believer of such things.
Call it “the little stories I tell myself, in order to keep myself passably sane.”
And that ?
He’s gonna get his too. In this world or the next.
I have to believe that.
Any other story to tell to myself is pretty unpalatable.
YOU HAVE TO START OUT LEARNING TO BELIEVE THE LITTLE LIES.
“So we can believe the big ones?”
YES. JUSTICE. MERCY. DUTY. THAT SORT OF THING.
“They’re not the same at all!”
YOU THINK SO? THEN TAKE THE UNIVERSE AND GRIND IT DOWN TO THE FINEST POWDER AND SIEVE IT THROUGH THE FINEST SIEVE AND THEN SHOW ME ONE ATOM OF JUSTICE, ONE MOLECULE OF MERCY. AND YET—Death waved a hand. AND YET YOU ACT AS IF THERE IS SOME IDEAL ORDER IN THE WORLD, AS IF THERE IS SOME…SOME RIGHTNESS IN THE UNIVERSE BY WHICH IT MAY BE JUDGED.
“Yes, but people have got to believe that, or what’s the point —”
MY POINT EXACTLY.”
– Hogfather by Terry Pratchett
Man, I hope so.
You don’t have to know something is criminally wrong to be found criminally guilty. Ignorance of the law is no excuse. He doesn’t need to know more or less people voted for Biden to attempt to commit voter fraud. Many people who’ve been convicted of voter fraud in this country didn’t think they were doing anything wrong at all, in some cases they were “just voting for a family member who couldn’t/who had passed/who moved but promised they wouldn’t vote there.”
You have a beer and drive home drunk an hour later. You think you’re under the number, but you’re over the number. Do you not get convicted because you didn’t know you were legally drunk?
Off-topic, but I love that Sir Terry gave Death such a distinctive “voice.”
On-topic, I can empathize with the conscious effort to believe in some larger form of cosmic justice. I can’t make myself have “faith” per se, but I’ve found great comfort in convincing myself that there’s some form of thing that might be described as karma and that people like 45 won’t always get away with their jackassery. Even if it’s just knowing that Death will have some pithy, all-caps comments when the time comes despite the failure of earthly consequences to stick thus far.

do you know, do they have to worry about standing at all? or is this just a formal request for the da to do something about it?
For some crimes, you absolute do have to know you are doing something wrong. It’s in the federal statute at he would be prosecuted under.
“knowingly and willfully depriv(ing) or defraud(ing)… the residents of a State of a fair and impartially conducted election process by… the procurement, casting, or tabulation of ballots that are known by the person to be materially false, fictitious, or fraudulent.”
Everyone seems to not believe me, but here’s a “14-plus years as a federal and state prosecutor” saying it.

Folks, I’m not saying he’s innocent or should get away with it or even will get away with it. I’m saying it’s not easy to convict for the crime everyone points to. It has an easy loophole. It’s more likely he can be found guilty of less obvious stuff.
I guess there’s a loophole.
But he knows what the state’s numbers are. He knows because he specifically asked for an exact number to be switched/found/otherwise moved. So I’m certainly not a prosecutor, but I would think asking for a specific number to change is tacit admission that he knows what the state’s results are, and that he’s asking for that many more that would be called invalid by the state.
Not active lately…kinda on point I guess,
They’ve had a busy year.
