Luke Cage

I just realized there is no correlative to a woman’s friendship to “bromance.” Misogyny strikes again?

Maybe bromance is badly depicted in teh movies, cuz feels? Maybe one character has to be bi or gay for a proper Platonic bromance to hit all the notes. That’s how it is in the real world, in my experience.

I just watched the episode. No they were great.

So far I think this song is the best one featured on teh show.

Speaking of the soundtrack, has anyone stopped to consider the implications of the Wu Tang Clan existing within the continuity of the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Ghostface Killah was name-dropping Iron Man back in 1996! Maybe they’ll explain it with some kind of temporal anomaly.

That hit me, too, and my roommate said “That’ll wear off, it’s current pop.” Or words to that effect, and I was discomfited because he’s Afrcan-American and I’m not. And then I rewatched the series, … and all the Harlem’s Paradise sets still were great, even more so, except that one. For me.

The power of suggestion, probably.

I have had musical opinion affected by other people’s opinion if I know and respect that person’s opinion in the first place. Although usually it makes me relisten to something and appreciate it more. I rarely if ever have been affected negatively by someone’s opinion. Though I might admit that, “Yeah, it is poppy trash - but I still like it.”

OK well, I saw all of them and overall liked it. I don’t think it was quite as good as JJ or DD story wise, though I would say the the second half picked up.

I don’t have any real criticisms, just nitpicks.

Like I said, the filler background music was blase, though any of the featured music was good and introduced me to a couple new artists.

All the acting was strong, and the setting and costumes were all great too. It looked good all around. The Day/Night contrast was nice too - it didn’t look to dark and bleak during the day. Claire Temple was cool to see and it looks like someone who will help pull the threads of the story line together.

Mariah gets a special mention because her character probably had the most development in the story. She is both a despised, but empathetic character and one of the most complex.

In hindsight, I wish they got rid of Cottonmouth sooner. He was a pretty uninteresting bad guy, especially because we have seen his exact sort of character in other stories.

Diamondback was a MUCH more interesting character, though I wouldn’t necessarily call him original. But he also brought an important factor to the story line - vulnerability of the hero. Luke Cage and similar heroes have the problem where if they are the biggest, most powerful fish in the pond, there is a lack of tension. JJ had the danger come from mind control, which her super powers couldn’t directly combat. LC for the first half of the show had no real fear until the Judas bullets.

Which is why I think Diamondback coming in sooner, fucking with him directly sooner, and beating him down more before he came back - though admittedly also formulaic, would have been a bit more satisfying?

But like I said, these are all nitpicks - and let’s be honest, generally serialized TV has just “ok” stories. All around everything was solid and nothing stood out as horribly stupid or anything. I look forward to Power Fist and then the teaming up in Defenders.
