I don’t know why the original plan was on a need-to-know basis is what i’m curious.

Because if there was even one traitor, spy, coward or idiot on board they could have jeopardized the entire plan. Which is exactly what ended up happening.

That was precipitated by the very act of secrecy though. Also had the Admiral said as much “I’m concerned there’s a spy on board” then i would 100% not have a problem with her decision, but at this point its just guessing that’s why they were holding plans back.

I’ve never served in the military, but I have a hunch that most Admirals don’t feel any overwhelming duty to share the reasoning underlying their orders with lower-level officers who were just demoted for brazenly disregarding the chain of command.

This holding back of plans doesn’t come up in all other SW movies though so if they really did want to break the mold having an explanation for it for the audience’s sake is helpful is all i’m saying.

There’s probably a slot somewhere that you can jam a plastic bread knife into that will blow the whole thing up, that none of your hundreds of engineering staff are aware of.

They probably do know about it.

It’ll be in the middle of a pointlessly huge empty chamber on a several kilometre high plinth reachable only by a one metre wide walkway with no rails.

That’s their idea of a safety feature.

You are correct, military has need-to-know drilled into it. Especially among the enlisted ranks, where questioning an order can lead to fatal delays in execution. Loose lips sinking ships, and so on.

There was also a Gillette tie-in with Justice League, the movie where Henry Cavill’s mustache was digitally painted out from pick-up shots, so he wouldn’t have to shave while filming another movie.
