Making, Crafting, Creating... aka Whatcha workin' on?

Well, these fit in my dremel knock-off, or in a router or drill with a sufficiently small collet. I use them in my dremel but it does take some practice to control them and they are pretty dangerous to badly placed fingers.

Another option is throw the plastic pieces away and simply route the appropriate groove into the wood itself.

Personally, I would use the table saw, or a handheld circular saw with blocks mounted on the sole, to cut the new slot.

The slot would curve up at the end following the profile of the blade, instead of being rectangular, but I’d fix that by drilling a series of holes to the correct depth and cleaning up with the aforementioned rotozip bit or a scary-sharp knife. I’d practice on scrap at least once or twice before doing it on the real shelves!

EDIT: Late to the party again. Glad you already found a solution!

Man I gotta start popping in here more often. Doh.

Well at the recent Asian Festival, they had these Japanese “candy” kits where you make these food replicas using a mix and water. We got a doughnut and ice cream kits. You spend like 20 minutes and eat them in two bites - and then wonder “What is this texture/flavor I have found?” But me and the kiddo had fun. Also I found out local Asian market has them.

I call this picture: NAILED IT!

Then another member of BB asked if I and the kiddo would enjoy this Diamond Painting Kit they are producing. I said sure, we will try it. We had a fun time with it. It is a canvas mat with a grid work of color codes that correspond to these tiny little “diamonds” - plastic beads with one flat end and one faceted one. You place them on the mat which as an adhesive like a cross stitch paint by number.

We took turns doing the beads as it only has one tool for placing them, and the other would help get the right color and put it in the little boat it comes with to help you sort out the beads. She really liked the colors and sparkle and I found it pretty fun too. It is going to take us awhile, we only got two little corners done so far.

Here is some pics with us working on it. Hopefully we can get it done soon, but we don’t have a ton of time to do this sort of thing  If you want to try it out, look up Diamond Painting by eGoodn on Amazon (there may be other sellers, I dunno). They are pretty affordable. If you plan to do it with someone, maybe order two so you can get two of the tools and boats and then you can work on the ends and meet in the middle.

One benefit of having a cool dad is I had a hobby magnifying glass on a stand to help work faster.

So I varnished a few paintings that had enough time to cure. It’s amazing how much better they look afterward.

I currently have four paintings on deck that I’m about to work on, but I have room for a couple more if anyone has been considering it. I’d really love the opportunity to try to capture an image of someone over Skype if they could allow me the role of art director, and not just a copyist.

An acquaintance of an old friend’s house burned down, but 34 large solar panels and their microinverters are now free for the taking since the insurance company’s going to pay for everything.

I am cautiously optimistic… if I can rent a truck and get there before anyone steals them this is a huge opportunity. I’ll post here if I can pull this off!

I have one unsold painting for the cat afficianado in your life.
Name your (within reason) price + 20 bucks shipping in the continental U.S.

Flat out, I need food/grocery money.

Haven’t done a bowl in a while…

This one was quite an adventure; it’s rather soft cypress, and I shaved it a bit on the thin side. This meant that the rim began to get a bit flexible, which made it difficult to cut smoothly, which led me to increase the RPM to smooth it out…which led the rim to flake apart repeatedly.

Superglue heals all wounds, though. You can see it on the opposite side of the rim from above…

I got my hands on a 3D printer and I have been printing up a storm. I intend to use it for making and painting models. My first completed build is a gift for a friend of mine who is into playing Pokemon Go.

Finished reconstructing the 1920s porch moldings that were raggedly chiseled off by previous home owners. Next steps are scrape, sand, caulk and repaint.

Then I’ll decide if I want to rearrange the gutter or not (probably will, though). Right now I have a DIY rain chain on it, but I don’t like how much water splashes back on the woodwork from the chain.

Now that life is great without nasal polyps (thanks to Prednisone), I’m painting every day. Here’s a first phase block-in I’m doing for @MarkDow, which felt surprisingly easy compared to efforts over the last ten years, when I needed to wait for a respite from poor health every so often to make any progress on a painting.

My health is good, but I still need to climb out of a financial hole. Thankfully, it’s not terribly deep. I’m offering a $150US special this weekend on 12"X12" wood panel paintings if anyone knows of art lovers in their circles of friends. I really need to sell at least two.

I think the picture is self-explanatory, but I should be able to post an image showing more progress later tonight.

Some progress, working out shadows and folds, and beginning to define the hands…

More detail:
Captured on NHC Debut Video Software, using Selection setting to capture full screen at 1679 x 1049 px (from 1680 x 1050)

Encoder options / AVI Encoding Settings
DV Encoder PAL (Direct Show)
Sound Compressor DV Audio
Sound format: 44100 HZ Stereo

Edit Output / Video Output Options
Resize Video = not clicked
Change framerate = not clicked

The setting above ensure avi is capture native with least frame rate loss; otherwise the audio drifts out of synch with the action. I suspect the background music is pushing the ageing technology of my XP machine.

I have an intermittent & slow connection to the net. the file sizes in trial A, B and C are half a gig each.Uploads would take hours, constantly monitored / restarted for dropped connections. I used Prism Video Converter to reduce each file down to about 50 MB each, using Edit Output / Video Output Options

Resize video = ticked, selecting
“Shrink or Enlarge the video to the selected size”
Height: constrain proportions to 4:3
Change framerate to 25.00

Here’s trial C from those many moons ago:

I added the larger touch display to the Pi crate. Playing video isn’t great due to laggy refresh, but that’s the driver’s fault, not the display. It doesn’t use the GPU. The fix is to use the normal accelerated video output and copy that to the display’s buffer, like Adafruit does. Eventually I’ll add an amp/speaker inside and get rid of that purple cable.

Next, I think I’ll cut some foamcore strips as a frame around the edges of the display.

ETA: Scored an amp’ed stereo speaker bar with “bass boost” at the Dollarama. The plastic case is worse than speakers, and the tiny speakers are worse than the stereo amp board, but the amp seems pretty good and I’ll re-purpose it with better speakers.

Been meaning to post these for some time. This is longbow #15. Stats: Black Cherry, 62" overall, buffalo horn tip overlays, 45# @28" draw. The belly was heat treated to help prevent it taking a set. Finish is french polish and the grip is black leather. Sorry about the lack of full draw pics, my photographer has been away at camp.

Now you just need some French knights to test it on.

I’d need another 50lbs draw weight and some bodkin point arrows to be effective against those guys. I’d also have to be considerably stronger than I am now, but it’s something to work towards. In the meantime, styrofoam targets are absolutely terrified of me.
