Many modern semi autos, like Glocks, rely on longer, heavier triggers and internal safeties that prevent a drop fire, but do not prevent the trigger from being pulled. It is reckless and irresponsible to carry any pistol not in a holster, but especially one with out an external safety.
If one does find themselves dropping a gun, though counterintuitive, you should let it fall. It should not fire when dropped, but could fire if you snag the trigger trying to catch it.
It was a negligent discharge, not an accident.
