Man in 4-day standoff with Amazon delivery van that won't leave his property

There are lots of non-profits that accept donations of non-operable vehicles, but unfortunately I think you still need to have the pink slip showing ownership.

I bet they’d tow it if the property owner pushed it out into the middle of the road.

Just call the police and say there is an abandoned vehicle parked in your driveway blocking it. Or get this, if the keys are in it, push the thing into the street blocking traffic. The cops will come and tow it.

Van of Theseus

Even if the van is abandoned on his property, doing something like this could end up putting him in legal jeopardy. This person is also in California where the laws around how to get rid of vehicles abandoned on your property above a certain value are rather arduous.

Police won’t do shit about it if it’s on private property, and he doesn’t want to pay a towing company to come and take it away. Tow truck drivers don’t work for free, you know.

The article linked to says Amazon told the guy to have it towed but he said he doesn’t want to do that because he wants to see how it plays out.

A quick Google search says Amazon goes to great lengths to not be responsible for their drivers and trucks especially when 3rd party contractors are involved. I bet a call to the police could easily find out what company owns the vehicle.

We have the same couple drivers for most orders, they are all very nice people and I would do anything to help them or at least not hurt them or make their job/life any more difficult than it is.

That being said there is a point where I would call the police to remove the vehicle I’m just not sure what that time frame would be.

I bet if he festoons the van with pro-union propaganda and gets it a Twitter account he will find Amazon more interested in it.

Uhhhh… Parked unlawfully. Call the LE and have it towed off.
Don’t “talk” to amazon at all.

That assumes he lives inside city limits (proper). I live outside of city limits and technically the roads in my neighborhood are the home owners responsibility. It’s always possible they are state owned roads, but unless the van is literally blocking a two lane road somewhere no one is going to care that much. At best it gets towed, and I wouldn’t put it past anyone including the police to just roll it into the ditch and call the tow company to come pick it up in about two weeks (assuming someone else doesn’t decide to come “claim” it first).

Whaaa? That’s actually a little mind blowing. I mean, we have private roads here, but only really just remote mountain connecter or seasonal roads. If you leave a car anywhere here that’s patrolled, which is basically everywhere, it will be towed within hours. Even residential neighborhoods have time limits (hours to days, depending). Hell, you will likely be towed for a lapsed inspection or registration.

Get a lawyer and find out how long it will take to get your new sprinter titled in your name. And what about all the undelivered goodies left in the damn thing. Sounds like Christmas to me. I have to say I admire his idea of donations to the local food bank but don’t let Amazon deliver the stuff.

He could have bought local in the first place rather than supporting a ruthless billionaire.

Amazon (or their contracted delivery carrier, more likely) emptied it of those right away. Can’t let themselves get bad delivery ratings!
