Ever since people started shooting each other using books as body armor for the likes, I’m not really surprised by anything. Well, I am surprised by one thing: I remembered the story as a couple using phone books, but this link is a couple where the woman shoots her boyfriend with a freaking DESERT EAGLE at close range while he holds an encyclopedia. So that means multiple people have done that, and at least one couple did it with a .50 caliber handgun meant for the battlefield.
