While I don’t condone the childishness, still I gotta say that MGT was left straight up:
She didn’t want that smoke.
Literally behavior that would warrant detention if it was coming from schoolchildren instead of members of the United States legislature.
MTG was giggling and smirking even after that. She got what she wanted. She wanted to get under the skin of Crockett and AOC, and she succeeded. I don’t blame them at all. MTG should have been shut down by the Chair the second she made that eyelash comment, but of course Comer would never do that.
Let her laugh; her usefulness to her masters is almost used up.
“And what is congressional era named?”
“[slow flourish] The Republican party! [bows]”
This the updated version of the ancient vaudeville joke “The Aristocrats!”.
They and their voters must be so proud.
They are body shaming assholes, we can’t fix them. We should not be. That’s sinking to their level.
(But that was an amazing burn, TBH)
I’d rather NOT do that, because that doesn’t help anyone. It’s just playing their fascist little games, and we can’t afford to do that… I get Ms. Crockett’s anger, though, I really fucking do. I’m with her on that.
Sadly agree. There was no winning move here other than shutting down MTG for her bad behavior at the beginning, which the chairperson failed to do effectively. Slapping back with retaliatory body-shaming comments didn’t make the Dems look better, it just showed how effective MTG’s bully tactics were at derailing the proceedings.
It’s always hilarious when conservatives attack AOC for being “dumb” because inevitably it’s not that she’s talking nonsense as they claim, but it’s because they’re so ignorant they don’t understand what she’s talking about. For MTG, of all people, to be calling AOC stupid is just… MTG just has zero self-awareness, not just in terms of who she is, but how others see her. Though I guess it’s just more Trumpian projection from a MAGAt.
I interpret this as AOC is a conventionally attractive woman, therefore cannot have intelligence. It is unnatural!!
That’s definitely part of it. I often see conservatives referencing something AOC has been talking about by framing it as “I don’t understand what this woman is talking about, therefore it must be nonsense,” and the fact that she’s a woman (much less an conventionally attractive one) is enough for them to dismiss the idea she has some knowledge they don’t.
It all goes back to judging women by their bodies and nothing else. MTG is just engaging in some misogyny, because it’s all she has. Just give white men what they crave to stay in office and to keep the money flowing in…
Hey, you don’t know this is misogyny! It could be misogyny mixed with racism too.
“It’s not easy, being mean…”
Gen Z has entered the [congressional] chat
It’s not a generational thing.
The biggest insult-spewing loudmouth in the party is 77.
My favorite part was when the guy who would be played by Stephen Root in a movie said, “A what now?”
