Martin Bashir resigns; MSNBC host suggested Sarah Palin's mouth be shat in

Rob, are there any guidelines you can point to on what constitutes appropriate posting of affiliate links? Serious question – I have no idea what the bb policy is on this subject.

Yeah, really. All I could think was, “Shit in her mouth? Talk about ‘taking coals to Newcastle.’”

You mean like a porn star? Or an actress? Or other paid promotional speaker?

Yes all of those women deserve to have shit in their mouths and to be politely called whores. Or is it just the ones who you personally don’t like?

There’s an old saying: A man with a $500,000 loan is owned by the bank. A man with a $500,000,000 loan owns the bank.

You can tell it’s an old saying because those figures would be 1,000 times higher today. Once a bank is so heavily invested in you, they can’t afford to have you lose. The Chinese government’s incredible need to “win” at global finance has made them short sighted and has created long term structural problems for their country that I do not envy.

There is a reason they maintain an iron fist over the internet and other forms of communication, because their social and economic policies have been slowly eroding the stability of the country for a generation now, and a popular uprising could spiral out of control extremely quickly.

ok. read broadcast news? way better than the film, which was also really good. if this response isn’t allowed either, please delete. but please do make sure to leave in all copy paste responses that link to ‘news’ sources on the web. those are just too funny.

Who cares?

This, in all likelihood, has to do with the canning of Alec Baldwin, and complaints that Bashir remained in spite of this incident.

I don’t care for MSNBC, they are the little diametrically opposed brother to Fox News. Not nearly as bad, but blind apologists at times, as well.

My only problem with Mr Bashir’s suggestion is where would you find the room to add more shit to Sarah Palin’s mouth? it’s already overflowing form there to begin with.

I think the original quote is from John Maynard Keynes, “If you owe your bank a hundred pounds, you have a problem. But if you owe a million, it has.”

One would think that in their study of economics, they wouldn’t have skipped the chapters on Keynesian theory, but I guess that as the bank, they did.

Except that there is a secondary market for T-bills. If China decided to sell all its bonds at prevailing market rates, the market would crash/correct, and it would suddenly become a lot more expensive for the US to borrow. Of course, the rub is that China holds so many US T-bills that it can’t sell all of them at prevailing market rates (though if it could, there’s a good chance it would), as prices will start to slide well before they’ve sold as many as they would like. Because of this China is basically locked into its current holdings, though they are now increasing their holdings of Euros.

…and how often and easily people invoke “slavery” with no real empathy, much less knowledge of history, of real brutality.

This is some weak, tame, milquetoast shit to get canned for. Sarah Palin deserves to be punished like the slaves she compared herself to? That’s coherent and even logical.

If it’s worth going out for, it’s worth going out in a BLAZE OF GLORY, Bashir. COME ON.

I don’t like it when FoxNews pulls their low brow haranguing / harassment / bullshit name calling / lying antics.

I therefore also don’t think I should like it when people I agree with act in the same manner.

“But they do it too/first” was a horrid excuse for bad behavior in preschool. That doesn’t and shouldn’t change because we’re all adults now.

I always attributed this to the removal of anonymous comments more than anything else…

Yep. Just because two people disagree with each other doesn’t mean one of them is right.

As a long-time non-viewer of TV news ignorant of Mr. Basher until this post, I have to say, that didn’t seem all that bad to me. While only using a metaphor to suggest that someone should defecate in Palin’s mouth, he explicitly calls her a dunce and an idiot. It’s more the latter then the former which re-affirms my position on newscasters. That, and that weird anchor-speak they all use.

The thing is, it was kind of a pointless tangent. It’s obvious from the first few seconds of her speech, even if you knew nothing about the woman, that Palin is a cretin. There was so much more there to talk about, but you want to go off about how Palin doesn’t understand the gravity and evil of slavery? No kidding, she doesn’t know anything! Obviously she was being hyperbolic (everything she and her ilk say is hyperbolic; Obama is a communist Nazi muslim doncha know?), but people abuse ‘slavery’ all the time without meaning it literally. Next time somebody complains about being a wage-slave, do they deserve an Olberman-style ‘how dare you!’ and a lecture on the journals of Thistlewood?
Maybe talk about the fact that this moron is still being paid to give speeches at fancy events like this. Talk about the reaction to the speech, talk about the people who, despite the evidence standing there in front of them, continue to take what she says seriously. Sarah Palin stating that an indebted America will be enslaved by China, when this is clearly impossible, didn’t merit an equally hyperbolic response.

Does Bashir write his own script?

Perhaps he can get a job with The Young Turks (and I mean that as a good thing). They do this sort of thing daily.

If you ever have to wrangle internet cats on a scale like BB has to I’m sure you’d have a better understanding of why these things happen. Managing comment spam is a massive f-ing PITA, let alone moderation.
