Martin Shkreli is going to jail for putting a bounty on Hillary Clinton's hair

It would be a good time for Bill Murray to put together a team for a heist.

The guy seems to be/ is a complete blowhard. He’d be thrown around like a chew toy of a Staffordshire terrier.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. shit? Get out of here!!!

(But seriously, he’d be forced to walked though the minefield if he were in the Zone. OR be eaten by blind dogs.)

Yup. I never suggested it; isolation is not the only way to hold a prisoner safely.

BTW: is anyone aware of any research on the ethics and effects of “solitary with visitors”? For example, would the harms of solitary confinement be eliminated if the prisoners were visited by a counsellor/priest/etc on a regular basis? Would it work even if the interaction was remote?

Trying to think about solutions for the handful of genuinely hyper-dangerous prisoners, not Shkreli.

I seriously think that this guy is on the asberger/autism spectrum in addition to being a sociopath (the two are not synonymous) .

The reason for the asberger assumption is as follows.
A) highly technical intelligence while lacking certain forms of emotional social inteĺligence.
B) Lack of interest in social norms or a lack of deep awareness of consequences of their behaviour regarding others
C) areas of deep focus and interest.

I know from personal experience some of the high functioning autistic kids who demonstrate high technical ability but who could never grasp social nuance. The lack of situational and social awareness means that they cannot figure out how to get positive reactions out of people. They still want attention because anything is better than being ignored by everyone so they throw everything in a brute force attack at the social wall, and unfortunately the most likely reaction that they get is a bad one. Better than nothing, they do not just continue, they optimize for maximum reaction (often bad). Nobody cares about his stellar marks or his band, nobody pays attentions to his stock trader portfolio, but the money is a tool to enable more of the previous social shock and awe behaviourr. YouTube is the megaphone. Now every hateful comment he receives is affirmation of his existence. Your hate is his validation, more than the money.

I hope he’s street smart enough to keep a low profile in jail. I do not think that he will go to standard prison (a for- profit prison with luxury accommodations for white collar criminals is more likely his fate). If he did go to a standard prison then he is likely to need segregation to stay safe.

FTFY. Understandable mistake.

Well, here’s the thing: being autistic isn’t an excuse for being an asshole. And sociopaths get negative empathy and sympathy from me because it’s a waste of time and effort to care about their feelings. They tend to have very few of them, and are defined by no sense of human empathy themselves.

I agree that autism does not guarantee being an as hole.

That being said, there are certain patterns of minefield that someone on spectrum would walk into that others with more social sense would navigate around, and Shkreli is practically slam dancing into a few of them.

He didn’t know.
He was ‘talkin’ out his ass’.

Oh dear! I am SO very, very sorry that you have no idea what snark is.

He certainly does seem to be deliberately trying to make everyone hate him. It’s working.

You know what, as long as he’s not diagnosed with anything, I’m just going to assume he’s a gaping runny asshole on purpose and that it’s entirely his own choices directing his behavior.

I almost feel for the guy because there must be something seriously wrong with him.

His broker will handle that while he has no access to his account. Churn, churn, churn.

On the plus side- he’ll own prison twitter.
