Massive video illusion: crashing waves appear to be inside a building

Yes this is a problem with building projections, whether by LED’s projecting light out or projectors projecting light onto the surface. If you’re not in the sweet spot for viewing it doesn’t read as well. Which is why a display like this would need different visual content running over time for different effects and aesthetic results. I think the curvature of the LED’s on the corner sell this effect from this perspective.

I would love to have access to this screen space as an artistic canvas. Unfortunately I would think that the video content would be sold to the client from a 3D render that only sells this perspective.

Fluid sims are a great way to create a certain sort of optics which melds with the geometry of the actual structure. But in real life this screen will be an imposition on the folk who have to live with it in their daily life, pedestrians, people in surrounding buildings, as well as the folk in this building etc. which means that for these urban installations it is important to consider the common denominator of viewing experiences.

I’m hoping that this is more than a demonstration of LED tech. A visual canvas that is more meaningful to the folk that have to see it everyday!

My thought is that SE Asia is so littered with ads that no one pays any attention to anything anymore, kinda defeating the purpose of the ads. Also guessing that S Korea is as bad as Japan on that score.

Building walls higher up are usually not that noticeable to pedestrians nearby if it is a spot with frequent displays, it might not stand out at all…

Yeah, but Marty McFly would still say the shark looks fake.
