Like, one earthworms can clear with ease. Yup…
I saw Hutchinson’s interview on the View yesterday. It was interesting. She sounds an awful lot like someone who was in a cult after they finally get out of it. I’m really starting to think MAGA really is literally a cult. Not just similar to one, or people in it exhibiting cult-like behavior, but literally a cult. I actually have a tiny bit more respect for her after watching that. Not a ton, but a tiny bit.
I think it is, absolutely… we normally associate religious trappings with cults, but there really isn’t any reason why something like the MAGA movement can’t also be considered similar…
Which would explain her going along with their ideology, too. It drew on those attracted to conservative politics, and imbued it with an attractive dose of the things that make cults work - community, purpose, meaning… Hell, if we look back on them, the nazis and other fascists movements had cult-like characteristics too.
Yeah… I’m still of the mind that we should stop shitting all over her, given how many people are still in this cult, and how she’s risked quite a lot to go against the movement. It can’t have been easy to do that… But apparently I’m in the minority here…
I agree with you. Alyssa Farah Griffin, a cohost on the View, is another former Trumper who risked a lot when she got out. She is, in fact, estranged from most of her family, including her father, because they consider her a traitor. It doesn’t make them saints because they still support conservative Republican policies, but they got out of the cult, and they’re both strongly opposing Trump now, so I’m inclined to encourage that rather than shit on them.
A fairly positive review of her book:
I’m glad she came forward and hope she gets to move past this.
