Mein Drumpf

I disagree. Even as non-serious criticism, it’s just not funny to me, and to many others in this discussion. I think the combination of the name-calling and the Godwin route combine for a childish joke. The fact that Trump’s daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren are Jewish also make it confusing.

I should note that my criticism is constructive, and, like I mentioned, I’d love to see a BoingBoing curation of some of the funnier Trump memes.

It’s a joke with an edge of seriousness. If you can’t see the existential threat that Trump poses to Muslims and Hispanics/Latinos, especially, and thus the obvious parallels to, the very underpinnings of, Nazi-like white supremacy in his rhetoric and proposed policies, I don’t know what else to tell you.

That’s a perfectly reasonable opinion, but mine just differs. Not sure what else to tell you either, but I appreciate you taking the time to engage me. I love a good joke; there are no lack of Trump jokes on the web, and I hope we see some here that make us both laugh.

There’s a permathread on his awfulness if you want to discuss the general cons of the confidence man.

Regarding the specifics of Trump’s racist bating, here’s an entry about the aggression at a recent rally in KY, and you’d never guess that the instigator has a white supremacist rap sheet a mile long.

Thanks, I’ll check that out. I guess I would rather see something that criticizes him seriously, and doesn’t make fun of his name, or that discusses his personal race positions, not those of individuals supporting him. However, we don’t always get what we want.

And this came from Louis CK newsletter today:

P.S. Please stop it with voting for Trump. It was funny for a little while. But the guy is Hitler. And by that I mean that we are being Germany in the 30s. Do you think they saw the shit coming? Hitler was just some hilarious and refreshing dude with a weird comb over who would say anything at all.

Except that the nazi comparison, true or not, got so overused that it lost its edge many many years ago.

Thanks for setting me straight on what I should and shouldn’t laugh at, oh mighty arbiter of edginess.

By all means the overused comparison by now is laughable.

Hey, believe me, I get it, you know what’s funny and edgy, not me. I thoroughly understand that.

Well, I find it funny, just probably not in a way you’d approve of.

The angle of the raised arms is impossible to assess with any degree of reliability from the angle in which the photograph was taken. The rest of the gesture matches a common “me too” raised-arm one.

Now I ahem “like” T Rump. Not because I like him. I don’t. I hate him. But I like him a lot more than that shit sandwich, Ted Cruz who is climbing. I do NOT want Ted Effen Cruz to get the nomination. A Cruz presidency would be 100x worse than a Trump presidency, for evangelical reasons. If you think T Rump is Hitler, Cruz is Triple Hitler on Roids with Hemorrhoids. You could NOT stand to look at that nose for 4 to 8 years.

On the other side, it is probably going to be either Donald Trump or Ted Cruz. In my opinion, Cruz is scarier than Trump. Trump is a kind of wildcard, but Cruz is really dangerous, if he means anything he’s saying.

Chomsky tends to agree with you.

Yep. I’ll take the narcissist crook over the religious lunatic.

Trump at least talks about negotiating. Even the people on Cruz’s own side loathe him.
