Fortunately, if so, it will get Facebook banned in Europe, Indonesia, the Middle East, India and parts of Africa, and Zuckerberg will need even more guards than he has at the moment. Faced with losing three quarters of his data cornfield, Zuckerberg would have to either separate US FB from ROW of start censoring violence.
Would you say youâre disappointed in Boing Boing?
People are already feeling the Zuckâs censorship and are migrating to some less restricted platform in, ironically, Russia.
I do occasionally think of joining vkontaktye, but then I think, how many Russian wives do I actually need (or can I afford)?
âDisappointedâ works; Iâm a little surprised too. Not at the position, but at its expression. Iâd like to see some heavily opposed but also thoughtfully intellectual or at least cleverly snarky views on this topic from BoingBoing. Seems like they went full Hitler plus mocking his last name right out of the gate.
Or if thatâs the presentational style, itâd be nice to see a curated set of Trump memes like some of what we see in the comments.
Which is exactly what many people said about Hitler in his early days.
Which is exactly what many people said about Hitler in his early days.
Well, that proves it then. /s
I agree that there are similarities, but the differences still outweigh them, not only in who Trump and Hitler are, but in the mood of the times and our own knowledge of history. The very fact that we are debating whether Trump is Hitler is strong evidence he wonât get a chance to go that far; we have the benefit of comparing Trump to Hitler, there wasnât really anyone to compare Hitler with in 1930.
I can live with people calling Trump Hitler (certainly we should stay on guard against any apparent dictator), but Iâve just heard it so many times in my life about other world leaders that itâs become a clicheâ.
our own knowledge of history
Except that the average American is painfully ignorant of that and a great many other things thanks to our wonderful school system. (Coincidence? I think not!) And indeed, in Hitlerâs early days there were a percentage of smarter folks who saw the danger well ahead of time and even sounded the alarm in a few cases but were laughed down. So, YMMV etc, but the fact that anyone at all pays attention to him should be terrifying.
They came for the Mexicans, but I was not Mexican so I did nothing.
Then they came for the Muslims, but I was not Muslim so I did nothing.
Then they came for the blacks, but I was not black so I did nothing.
Then they came for the journalists, but I was not a journalistâŚ
Midway through the war, the British intelligence agencies cancelled their plans to assassinate Hitler, on the grounds that Adolph as CinC was one of the greatest strategic advantages the Allies possessed.
[citation very much needed]
Midway through the war from the British point of view was 1942-3, and was also when âThe turn of the tideâ took place - Stalingrad and El Alamein II. If such an idea was ever mooted, it is far more likely that German intelligence revealed that assassination of Hitler would be virtually impossible. Certainly his survival of the July Plot lengthened the war.
I was thinking of Operation Foxley; 1944.
This seems really counter-productive and damaging to the reputation as a journalist that youâve worked hard to build.
Would you say you only like journalists that donât seem to damage their own reputation, and war heroes that didnât get caught, and news networks that give you free air time?
The point is there are much more useful descriptors than âNazi.â
and there are much better ways to use your own time using those rather than policing a bunch of people on the internet for being insulting incorrectly.
Youâre the reason why the ignore feature is needed. Thanks for playing. Also: youâre Hitler.
No, I wouldnât say that at all. It doesnât seem reasonable.
Quite the opposite, they are absolutely livid about the idea that someone like Obama could attain the position of Commander-in-Chief.
But I think they were also thrilled because they viewed it as an excellent opportunity to bring in new membersâŚ
Try reading the threads about him. We bring the criticismâŚ
I do. Picturing him with a swastika over his face isnât really great criticism.
Yeah, but it is a good larf. Not every mode of critical discourse needs to be couched as serious criticism.
