Michael Moore has a message to federal employees: "Don't go to work!"

Agreed. A few years ago I saw one of those idiot puff-pieces about how horrible Millennials were, and it was basically cut-and-paste from an idiot puff-piece about how horrible Gen Xers were. There are always generational differences between older people and younger people, and they’re almost always the same issues, regardless of century – young people are disrespectful of culture, old people are out of touch with culture.

My point is more that, the size of my “youthful generation” was so much smaller than the “adult generation”, and it really felt like the adults couldn’t crush our spirits fast enough. But that’s my personal experience, and I’m not trying to make a blanket statement (although I’ve heard similar comments from people my own age, so… ???).

How did you get ahold of my cat?? Wait…never mind. Mine is much larger. She is named Satan (she’s a real cat).

Aaaand… he caved. All of that suffering, all of the division, all of the resentment for absolutely nothing.

This. Isn’t it funny that two back to back generations have been told essentially the same thing: there’s nothing you can do, just give up, accept it.

So… what if we don’t anymore?

Seems to be what’s happening.

Sounds like a plan to me.

Whenever people around me start bitching & moaning about ‘the younger generation’, I always ask:

But WHO was it that taught and raised that generation?

weren’t the people who successfully controlled their caucuses in this bad-faith negotiation from those generations?

like, who are you subtweeting here?

Michael Moore is one of those few public figures for whom even when I don’t agree with (in this case I do) I have respect.

It’ll all be back again in three weeks. Unless the Dems cave again, in which case it’ll be back again a few weeks after that.

for all the good it did, hundreds of thousands marched against going to war in iraq 17 years ago. in most of the major cities of the u.s. they marched, for all the good it did. boomers, gen xers, gen yers marched against a war in iraq, for all the good it did.

I think the Dems made a calculation that I would have also made. Keep the ball in Trump’s court and keep the blame his. The next shutdown is also going to be Trump’s shutdown. Multiple shutdowns in the same year that are both Trump’s fault hurts Trump. There’s a risk if they didn’t accept this temporary capitulation, it could be turned on them. Is it ideal? Fuck no. But it does give Dems additional leverage three weeks from now that they wouldn’t get by prolonging the shutdown. Now I could be wrong and the Dems could end up capitulating three weeks from now, because they’re the human equivalent of a garden gate that often blows open in a stiff breeze, but I like to think that even the most cynical among them don’t see how acquiescing to Trump’s hostage-taking benefits them.

Side note: I spelled acquiescing right the first time I typed it and I am so proud right now.

The whole of society? The last 40 years of western thought?

could also be how to organize a national strike across such a huge area as the USA as well as seeing all the recent protests go either unrecognized by the media or not really amounting to any change.
