More than half of Republicans support Christian nationalism

That’s not what the Bible says.

Acts 4:32
All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of their possessions was their own, but they shared everything they had.

Most of the far right types that I come into contact with (I live in Idaho so they are unavoidable) merely identify as Christians in order to ‘own the libs’

I am currently reading the sci-fi series We Are Legion (We Are Bob) and in there the US gets a Trump-like Christian Nationalist president that ends up causing the end of the US as we know it and its replacement with a Christian Theocracy. It felt weirdly prescient and accurate with how things are currently going. It’s not part of the main plot of the book, more like part of the world building. It also involves the world nuking itself into near oblivion but i’m not gunna dwell on that

Gasp! Socialism! Jesus is a commie! Quick send weapons and training advisors to Satan and his legions, we need a regime change in Heaven to bring DemocracyTM and FreedomTM to the Holy Kingdom.

I don’t think Satan is interested in helping them. At most, he will use the Nat-Cs as cannon fodder. He has more experience at deception than all of the Republicans put together.

I’ve had right wing Xtians try to persuade me that it isn’t socialism because it is voluntary. God seems to disagree though.

Now a man named Ananias, together with his wife Sapphira, also sold a piece of property. 2 With his wife’s full knowledge he kept back part of the money for himself, but brought the rest and put it at the apostles’ feet.

3 Then Peter said, “Ananias, how is it that Satan has so filled your heart that you have lied to the Holy Spirit and have kept for yourself some of the money you received for the land? 4 Didn’t it belong to you before it was sold? And after it was sold, wasn’t the money at your disposal? What made you think of doing such a thing? You have not lied just to human beings but to God.”

5 When Ananias heard this, he fell down and died. And great fear seized all who heard what had happened. 6 Then some young men came forward, wrapped up his body, and carried him out and buried him.

Obligs, from Emo Philips

Once I saw this guy on a bridge about to jump. I said, “Don’t do it!” He said, “Nobody loves me.” I said, “God loves you. Do you believe in God?”
He said, “Yes.” I said, “Are you a Christian or a Jew?” He said, “A Christian.” I said, “Me, too! Protestant or Catholic?” He said, “Protestant.” I said, “Me, too! What franchise?” He said, “Baptist.” I said, “Me, too! Northern Baptist or Southern Baptist?” He said, “Northern Baptist.” I said, “Me, too! Northern Conservative Baptist or Northern Liberal Baptist?”
He said, “Northern Conservative Baptist.” I said, “Me, too! Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region, or Northern Conservative Baptist Eastern Region?” He said, “Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region.” I said, “Me, too!”
Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region Council of 1879, or Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region Council of 1912?" He said, “Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region Council of 1912.” I said, “Die, heretic!” And I pushed him over.

They’ve changed, but what’s changed is their dropping the veil. 20 years ago a survey saying they want a theocracy would have been an embarrassing slip to be hushed up. Oops, someone got them to say the quiet part out loud! Now they proudly scream it in peoples’ faces and react with righteous indignation when people try to de-platform or even just disagree with them, as though we’re the crazy ones for not wanting to entertain the idea of living in a brutally oppressive fascist hellscape.

And yet people are still trying to deny this shit, when there are people - IN elected office - who not only fully embrace the movement, but have said that shit OUT LOUD…

Absolutely!

For all their loudly professed belief in Jesus Christ, I doubt any of them could give even a superficial overview of the Sermon of the Mount and its meaning. Rather than consider the critical role of the New Covenant as the bedrock of Christianity, the likes of Greene prefer to reach back into the Bronze Age thuggery of Deuteronomy and Leviticus for their vicious, empty rhetoric.

There’s a reason they are called the Christian Taliban. A lot of reasons, actually.

You have that exactly backwards. The extremism comes from the west TO the middle east, not the other way around.

This is a white nationalist problem, so stop blaming it on brown people…

Very interesting study. There’s a lot more to it than Mark’s takeaway.

For me the money quote is "Differences in trust of various media sources strongly correlate with differences in Christian nationalist beliefs. "

the voluntary part is very important. how else can you exclude marginalized groups, and hold your money over the heads of people in need in exchange for their devotion?
