A lot of talk about impeachment, but nobody has mentioned how all this likely will play out in the medium term. It’s looking more and more like Trump will refuse, and so he will get subpoenaed. (If he doesn’t fire Rosenstein first.) That’s where the litigation battle begins. The circumstance being of such consequence, it would end up before the Supreme Court. That definitely invites comparisons to U.S. v. Nixon, but in this case I think, rather than resignation 16 days later, there will be quite a protracted end game following whatever ruling we get. I would say it’s more likely than not that Trump will be ordered by the Court to provide answers in some form or another, and beyond that we’re into some rough waters. As somebody else said, Mueller is going about this systematically, methodically. Still, a cornered dog is dangerous.
