I imagine that being so rich and powerful that everyone in your day-to-day life feels compelled to laugh at your lame jokes would be a contributing factor for this problem.
TBF - Florida is pretty warm year round, so there is more time to get up to shenanigans. Vs some place like Michigan or Kansas where riding around on an ATV high on meth with no shirt on isn’t very pleasant in the middle of January.
There’s also the state’s transparency laws that allow us to enjoy the antics of Florida Man to a greater degree than those perpetrated by his cousins in other states.
I work in NC which has very few unionized factories. I see unions as a double edge sword. I see the level of bureaucracy that my counterparts at unionized factories have to deal with, where no one says things like, “that’s not my job” (with in reason) in our factory. At the same time this is a right to work state. I could be fired or the factory could close tomorrow and all I get is a couple weeks of pay.
Poking at AOC on Twitter is a reliable way to get torched, and he should have known that.
Now that he does, it’ll be interesting to see if he has enough sense to back off (he doesn’t), or if this will turn into another “Rand Paul coming for Fauci and getting used as a punching bag” situation.
I would never say unions are perfect. The history of unionization in the US really illustrates all the problems on both sides, but it’s too long to go into here.
I worked in a union shop when I was younger. There were people who took advantage of union rules to benefit themselves, but the owners also tried to screw over some honest employees. Eventually the union got voted out and (contrary to what the owners promised) there were mass firings. Greed is a human weakness that both sides can succumb to.
Fair. It’s also an “at-will” employment state, which implies the can fire me or close the factory. Even though “just cause” is typically needed for letting someone go it doesn’t take that much justification either. At least here when most people mention right to work they typically imply the at will aspect.
I think they’ve always been there, it’s just that they were only really heard locally. Now, any asshole can spout any sort of offensive garbage and be heard/seen all over the world!
Sadly.
Here in the States, “Right to Work” is a right wing double speak like “Protecting Religious Freedom” when they mean protecting the right to discriminate against LGBT+ people. It basically means your employer owns you and can fire you at any time for any or no reason, and you cannot do anything about it.
If I had a billion dollars, I wouldn’t care what any rando said about me because I’d be too busy doing literally anything else. I’d be a billionaire!
Instead Elon picks fights with people on Twitter, famous or not.
Which leads me to speculate that, beneath all that bravado and bluster, there’s a sad teen with major self esteem issues, worried that someone is going to discover and reveal the poser he is.
The person “defending” him has a propaganda take on unions so old the Reagan era is calling to demand it back. Ain’t no one moving to the "south’ anymore, that was the 80’s and into the early 90’s. After that, it was pretty much all Asia. Phew, that person needs a real update on their anti-union rhetoric.
