Musk's latest effort to make Twitter even worse succeeds

Did he try threatening to give away their handle?

Next he will threaten to give that account to someone else unless they come back and tweet again. Asshole.

I am NOT a fan of moving these posts to the misogyny thread. Let’s keep them here, please.

The posts @Mindysan33 is referring to can be found here, and worth reading, just off topic here

You wouldn’t even have to lock the door as long as the button worked.

Let’s see, what’s the metaphor…oh yeah: “Musk throws another can of gasoline at his dumpster fire.”

But but but, Twitter is a technology company! It’s has this amazing irreplaceable technology of… delivering 140 character messages to people. (Says lots of idiots, not just elon musk)

I’m not dismissing the value and difficulty in developing the technical infrastructure musk has been trying to burn to the ground. It’s a testament to job they did that Twitter is even still running. But lots of companies have infrastructure, that wasn’t twitters secret sauce.

I think that because of Musk’s perceived insane level of wealth, none of the people he knows or interacts with treat him in any way like a normal person would be treated. As a consequence he has become so mentally twisted that he’s incapable of making accurate assessments about the world, and it’s so bad that he can’t even understand how many social (and even economic) processes function. It is a kind of psychosis. His brain is in a kind of psychotic rut from which he has no escape.

Donald Trump may even be a more extreme example of this kind of psychosis.

They both are conmen who have gotten away with their cons for so long that they believe their own lies; the world has only reinforced their condition. Their success let’s them psychologically neglect inconvenient facts that contradict their worldviews.

The worship of wealth in the world has given them legions of followers, people who who have the trait in common that they demand simple explanations for how the world works, and a “successful” leader to confirm their beliefs. The followers want- need even- to believe the lies. The perceived wealth confirms to the followers the correctness of the lies.

Breaking these guy’s wealth should go some way toward undoing some of the damage they have wrought. The sooner this happens to these guys, the better.

Neither of them are known to be mentally ill. They are both known to be assholes

Be aware that It is against the community guidelines here to attribute a mental illness to someone who does not have a publicly known diagnosis.

It also lets them off the hook for being assholes, so it’s a bad idea in general, and promotes the idea that mental illness makes people bad people, which is patently false

IDK about the USA but in other countries there are already various official alert systems running on mobile phone networks. Japan has its earthquake warning system. The UK has recently introduced a similar system. We also have plenty of apps like the BBC, Meteorological Office, National Rail, and local transport services, which give you alerts or even real-time information.

The main difference of Twitter is that it allows anyone in an area to send a warning, so you get a citizen journalist effect where lots of drives stuck in the queue for the Dartford Tunnel start complaining, and that’s where local radio travel news gets a lot of information.

But if Twitter is unreliable and full of bots, why would anyone trust it?

Or maybe he was always an asshole. Some people are just like that, especially when their parents own emerald mines. And some people love to worship assholes, especially those that are wealthy and powerful. Maybe we have a system that very much rewards assholes and the people that worship them?

I think Musk’s handling of Twitter is probably in no small part because he’s been living in a bubble that only reflects the most idealized portraits back at him. On the other hand, not caring about being disowned by his own child so he can keep making pronoun jokes? That’s clearly because he’s a selfish asshole, plain and simple.

He’d better be careful. The MTA has ways of making people disappear, and they never return. :grinning:
