. They all describe the same thing, a low-pitched sound that’s only heard indoors, and that sounds like a distant piece of machinery, or an engine idling.

Fair point. Still, I appreciated the way they dug into methodology used to locate the sound in various circumstances.
This always reminds me of Christopher Guest as Harlan Pepper in Best in Show discussing the folks who live near the power lines (I have the right movie, right?).
I bought my car from a dealer which has some high tension lines about 50 meters from the lot, and boy can you hear that hum.

In my neighborhood it is the distant whine of leaf blowers, taking twice the time to remove leaves as a traditional rake.
