Musk and Twitter are being accused of hypocrisy, given their claimed free-speech aspirations.
He’s often ridiculed for losing a ton of money by buying Twitter and then running it the way he has, but I often wonder if his goal all along has been to turn a former public commons of sorts into a huge and welcoming snake pit for far-right vipers like this sad, idiotic cartoonist.
His goal was definitely to make it more welcoming for them, I think he was just stupid enough to think he could do that without alienating everyone else.
I’m not convinced he did it to make it more welcoming to them. He did it to make it more welcoming to him. Same net effect, but different intentions.
I get the feeling buying Twitter was accidental. A pump and dump scheme gone awry. He never intended to own it.
Now he’s doing the equivalent of burning it down for the insurance money.
I don’t think the Bonesaw clan will be as willing to write-off this loss as Nationwide Insurance Group would be…
As long as it is up, is it a loss? I’m sure he’ll give them all the data and suspend whoever they want.
That said, this case is remarkable because no-one outside of extremely online spaces cares
I would say that people who were employing a security guard or IT guy who was a Nazi might care.
Oh, I don’t know. For several years I worked as a security officer for a well-known global entertainment company, a really Mickey Mouse operation you might say. We had one Trumpist wacko who streamed far-right YouTube videos on his guard shack computer and harangued anyone within earshot about “doing your own research.” Management shrugged him off as a harmless eccentric.
I believe hardly anyone wants to work security, unless it’s the ones who are looking for public-facing positions where they can bully people. Most workers I ran into took the job because they needed the money and bailed out as soon as they found a better gig. I think the security field attracts “social misfits” (sorry; don’t know a better term) who are unable to hold down more demanding jobs. The low entrance requirements and limited public contact provide them a refuge along with a (small) income.
As for employers, they’re always short staffed and dealing with constant employee turnover. If an officer really screws up their job the company has no problem canning them. If all the officer does is keep his head down and create Nazi cartoons on the side, what the hey? He’s not a problem for us.
I used twitter every day for more than a decade. Met some of my best friends on there and “spoke” to some of my heroes. I loved it.
But anyone who can think straight needs to stop using it.
I am. He is one. the mask is fully off and it’s pretty crystal clear that Musk is a white supremacist. We can only assume all his actions are intended to further his ideology.
It doesn’t feel right to call this Streisand effect, that implies self-inflicted to me.
Graebner effect?
Interesting point. I understand Disney might not be able to discard 30% of the population. But, I think that even with a smaller business, if you’re not going to do a full background check, you might at least Google the guy’s name. If you have a choice between two people, you might go with the guy who’s not a Nazi cartoonist.
It’s certainly discouraging to realize how many truly despicable people walk among us.
The real problem is that those who can’t think straight are the ones who most need to be stopped from using it

It’s strange that this wasn’t linked in this post. It’s the first external references on Know Your Meme page.
To counter claims of being a “Nazi,” StoneToss provided a glib denial on the “About” page of his website, writing:
No, I am not a member of the National Socialist German Worker’s Party, a national socialist, or a fascist. I just enjoy edgy humor. Redditors and other brainlets like to pretend otherwise, however.
It is self-inflicted, though. This guy wasn’t well known enough to really even be on Twitter’s or Musk’s radar until he tweeted at Musk crying about being doxxed.
So, just spakling neo-fascist. Got it. These “technically…” arguments never work. You would think they would have caught on by now.
