Headline needs to be corrected.
Republicans believe. Given this aversion to facts and reality, they cannot think in anything like a normal, functional manner.
If you think they could, explain how they could vote against their interests for decades and multiple generations.

Probably not.
Right now the mandate is small compare to the cost of insurance, so the experts suspect it isn’t actually having much of an impact anyway. Eliminating will cause rates to go up a bit, but probably not a ton.
The big motive for the mandate was the free rider problem where people would only sign up once they got sick, but people are only allowed to sign up during the open enrolment periods, so waiting till you’re sick doesn’t work for most of the year.
Considering the political price the Democrats paid for the mandate it will be more than a little ironic if it turns out to be unnecessary.
