Edit: I do wonder how many of Spencer’s fanboys are planning ways to film another act of violence in the hopes that it too will go viral.
Once upon a time I was sitting at home and talking with my sis about how there was nothing to do when suddenly the whole house started shaking and a giant pitcher filled with some red liquid crashed through the wall and shouted ‘hey kids, who wants nazi punch!!’ and I was like ‘is that punch made from real nazis!?’ and the giant pitcher man shouted YES so we drank it all up. After he left my sister turned to me and quietly asked “Are we vampires now?”

My grandmother grew up in Kankakee. It’s definitely a bit odd looking at old family photos labeled with the three-lettered abbreviation. I vaguely remember asking about it when I was young and being quickly reassured that it was just referring to the city.

A former colleague, while in the Army, was posted to Cyprus to organise convoys around the island. One day a brigadier came to inspect and my colleague was reprimanded for not carrying a sidearm - which, as he pointed out, was useless against any credible threat (snipers or IEDs).
He responded by checking the rules on allowable sidearms and obtaining a Thompson, equally useless against snipers but more visually impressive. He was photographed in his staff car clutching this thing in the Churchill pose and the picture was sent back to the brigadier, who did not reply.
(In all his time on the island he never had the need to use it.)
I know this is OT but perhaps the time has come to start digging out the WW2 memes and pushing them around the Internet more, as a kind of mimetic resistance.

Le Pen is playing to the supremacist strand in French culture along with the anti-Semitism. Because France is no longer a world power, supremacism manifests itself as an attempt to impose assimilation on people living in France. If only the French could decide what French culture was! Peasant women in headscarves in male dominated society doing what the priest says - fine; French speaking Muslim women in hijabs in male dominated society doing what the imam says - not fine.
