Neo-Nazis Attack Boing Boing Publisher

Oh, I expect he’ll start on the Slavs, the Han and the Polynesians before long. I doubt that he makes the general connection between the back end of the Med and being Semitic.

But this is America, so African Americans and the Native Americans are always in the line of fire. Let’s see what happens with the Dakota pipeline and with the EO related to law enforcement. I’m guessing some bloodbaths.

Indeed. And the fact that wants to allow Russians to keep their dual citizenship is just a slap in the face.

There have been bloodbaths, there will continue to be bloodbaths

Absolutely. They can feel free to double down on violence against POC. I’m suggesting they will increase and get worse, especially for people out on the streets or protesting pipelines.

He’s not exactly going after the Maltese. But someone who doesn’t like Jews and Muslims going after Jews and Muslims is not at all surprising.

Just so you know, people attempting to move the goalposts for antisemitism in this manner–i.e. having it be all inclusive for all Semitic people–is a very common tactic in attempting to block accusations of bigotry against Jews. In general, it’s best to use “antisemitism” for bigotry against Jews, Islamophobia for bigotry against Muslims, and so forth.

Don’t forget anyone with a camera. They have been cracking down on journalists too.

Noted.

Anti-Judaic bigotry is a thing. Anti-Islamic bigotry is a thing. The current crop of US politicians appear to be quite keen on both of those options, although Islam looks to be first on the Inquisition block.

The history is notable; Hitler actively pursued alliances amongst the Muslim world, although it was pretty fucking obvious that the Arabs would be next on the list once the Jews were slaughtered.

It looks like we’re doing it in reverse order this time.

Yet.

The Maltese are extremely good marine and civil engineers. Perhaps Trump should get them to quote for building his wall. After all, they’ve had to endure the refugee crisis caused by the last Republican war of aggression.

You know, some languages permit the “and I” construction, just as in some a double negative is a reinforcer. And “to boldly go” is perfectly comprehensible. The attempt to turn English into a Latin rather than a Gothic language was made by classics teachers in an education land grab in the 18th and 19th century. I think it’s OK to resist them, it’s just that “Latinate grammar obsessives” doesn’t flow as easily as “grammar Nazis.”

On that note, may you and your fiance be blessed with a household full of healthy, strong and wise Jewish kids.

Maybe you and I experienced different times & places in NYC.

Except this and the other recent fuss about public kippahs are not particularly targeted at French Jews. In this case, its all dual nationals (with certain exceptions in Europe). In the other case its about the widely held French ideal of laïcité.

I’m not a FN supporter myself, I dont think they would govern well at all. Oddly enough I have met French Jews who vote FN. Definitely not the “self hating Jew” types either. FWIW I also prefer to try and read things in the original French wherever possible.

To echo @bibliophile20 this sort of statement really only comes from those who wish to discount the very real problems like what @jlw is facing.

I was going to ignore that comment, but it is gnawing at me. You really need to find a way to separate actual Nazis and White Supremacists from people like me, who you accuse of such things because you see me as being a little to the right of your personal politics. Calling me a Nazi is akin to saying that being stuck in traffic for a couple of hours was “just like being in Auschwitz”. It is pretty rude to me, and it is insulting to people who people who lived through the actual experience of Nazism, or worse, those who did not survive.
Plus, it is pretty mean spirited, and passive-aggressive. Pet a kitty or something.

This is an image of John Banner. He portrayed a member of the luftwaffe in Hogans Heroes. But he was also a person who fled the actual Nazis during the Anschluss, and lost family members in the Shoah. Not an actual Nazi. Not a Nazi sympathizer. Made a career of mocking Nazism. The BB article is about harassment from people who at least represent themselves as actual Nazis. It is important to be able to tell the difference.

For the record, I didn’t call you a Nazi. I just strongly implied you might…know… Nazis.

I really don’t care if you get butthurt here. You’ve been race baiting in a deniable fashion for a while (and always deny it when challenged). You’re not convincing anyone.

But about John Banner, he is in fact correct. Lots of Jews in that show who made a distinct point of ridiculing actual nazis FWIW

Yes, I know. As I recall, the actor Werner Klemperer who played Col. Klink had a Jewish father and was German born.

I went for bumbling mockery of Nazis rather than the creepy…

Klemperer signed onto the show on the condition that the nazis would only ever be portrayed as bumbling fools.
