New Episode VII Trailer

Tartakovsky?

Destroying the entire planet might be a bit of an overreaction to a bad movie. I suppose the Death Star may be capable of more pinpoint attacks, but Iā€™d be worried about collateral damage all the sameā€¦

I am not clear what you were asking. I did some searches which indicate that I did not see Tartakovskyā€™s series, but the later one.

Iā€™m wondering if having JJ Abrams take over as director might actualy be helpful. He just wasnā€™t right for the Star Trek reboot, but I think he has a more Star Wars view of the world. His approach might work far better for Wars than it did for Trek.

But I do hope itā€™s good too.

The Tartakovsky Clone Wars shorts are amazing. I really want more Samurai Jack as Jedi. GT deserves more credit. Iā€™d watch the hell out of two hours of Mace Windu tearing apart robots with the Force.

JJ Abrams got to destroy Vulcan without a good reason. I can do the same.

Well, seriously, Iā€™d love to reassure you that I am actually a sane individual who understands that it is actually just a movie and that I will not overreact or cause any collateral damage.

But you have to understand my position here: I have to make a credible threat. A sane person with a planet-buster weapon is no threat at all, and therefore cannot make any demands. Itā€™s the same with nuclear weapons. For decades, the US government has avoided creating the impression of being sane, otherwise the nuclear deterrent would be worthless.

Or maybe thereā€™s another optionā€¦ How do you think JJ Abrams would react to being offered a free tour of my Death Star on the condition that he fixes his movies?

Iā€™m still waiting for that Star Trek movie where a timeline with Vulcan in it is restored and the Federation are the good guys - which means, among other things, that theyā€™d respect Klingon territorial integrity rather than risking wars by perpetrating clear acts of agression, and that theyā€™d celebrate people who blow up a Section 31 base as the freedom fighters and heroes that they are.

In the meantime, Mr. Abrams can escape the irrational wrath of a crazy person with an imaginary Death Star by making the fourth-best Star Wars movie. Thatā€™s all I ask.

My theory about the prequel trilogy, in short, is that someone working for Lucas wrote a coherent overall plot for the three movies, then Lucas kept ā€œimprovingā€ it until it no longer made any sense.

That also depends on my hunch about what that original plot was about. I think the idea, originally, was that the Jedi Knights would be proven to be just as flawed, in their way, as the Sith. My guess is that Lucas had a strong bias towards presenting the Jedi as the ā€œgood guysā€ we expected them to be, and so lost track of this. That horrible speech by Yoda, on encountering Anakin, is pretty close to pure evil, and it always seemed to me that Yodaā€™s advice to Luke in Empire Strikes Back, that he should not try to save his friends, was fundamentally wrong and that Luke was right to reject it. Ultimately, itā€™s Luke who ā€œbrings balance to the Forceā€ by reconciling Jedi selflessness with Sith passion, through his compassion for his friends and for Anakin, which is how he redeems Anakin and defeats the Emperor.

Yes, Jedi build their own. No you donā€™t need to be force tuned to turn one on (see Luke in ANH before he gets trained, Han in ESB to cut open the Tauntaun) but you do need force powers to wield one effectively. Light sabers are SUPER POWERFUL. Look at the style of fighting in the proper trilogy. These are big swords with powerful blows vs the silly flashy sword play in the prequels.

The extra knobs control length and power output. Not hard to explain and actual canon.

Is that what youā€™re calling your van these days?

Butā€¦ Where are the Midichlorians stored?

Weā€™re probably the same age and polar opposites!

I was about six when I saw Star Wars, in a drive-in. It pretty much dominated my imagination for years.

Thatā€™s setting your sights rather low. With all the negative feedback the prequels have accrued over the past 16 years, Abrams would really have to shit the bed to make the fifth best Star Wars movie.

Can it have ewoks?

Yeesh. Well, better Ewoks than Gungans.

Canā€™t we have both?

No, you may not. If Abrams can wipe virtually all Vulcans out of existence, do you think heā€™d hesitate for a second to ethnically cleanse that far, far away galaxy of every Gungan alive?
