I assume that the price of any new-in-box 8s will be adjusted to reflect their new inferiority; which will potentially make a pretty solid case for them.
At least for the use cases I deal with; the phone is pretty much doing the job of a Blackberry whose web browser isn’t garbage; so cost, management, and supported lifecycle matter a lot more than SoC benchmarks(except in the limited sense that SoC generation is a factor in when you can expect iOS to lose interest in you). Because they play nice with MDM, and don’t ship hideous pack-in crap(well, not as much, it seems like iOS gets busier as time passes and whenever a new Apple peripheral comes out); that niche pretty much means “Base model iPhone” at this point.
