I’m guessing this is a reference to the Soviet Vote of 1937 and the repression of alternative candidates.

Yet again I find that my politics are more liberal than my musical taste. I support Pussy Riot every way I can and I love what they do… but I find their actual songs un-listenable.

It might be a more general reference to the Great Purge (the vote was held during it). The lyrics make direct reference to the torturer being murdered the following day which sounds like a purge to me.

As a straight guy, although old enough not to dominated by sexual urges, I still disagree with your first phrase, and police riots abhor me but do need to be publicized when they happen. Cowbell brings amusement; for those not familiar, insert the sentence into any general search box.

Since I do not understand Russian, all I interpret are young soft female voices, which tend to please me. They could be singing a paragraph out of Landau and Lifschitz for all I care.
