The above is why we need to make it a confiscation-of-fortune and jail-time crime to hire someone without the proper status to work legally in America.

That’s the only thing that will stop the exploitation, cruelty and profiteering American Capitalism is based on.

There is no such thing as ethical capitalism or ethical nationalism. The exploitation would continue under a system of enforced work permits, but it would be out of sight of people who would object.

But maybe that is the point.

Records filed with the state Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) show that the University of Farmington was incorporated in January 2016.

They got started early.

OK, I did not think it was possible, but you just made me think, even in our current dystopian nightmare, “no way could that be real!” So, I guess, thank you for proving to me that I can still be shocked? Stupid fucking timeline.

It doesn’t seem likely that there will ever really be a situation where there are a bunch of undocumented guys hanging out in front of Home Depot looking for work and the cops arrest whoever tries to hire them but leave the workers alone

When a transaction is criminalized, the state always punishes the seller more harshly than the buyer

This kind of campaign will eventually morph into a full-blown dogs-and-helicopters War on Immigrants where anybody associating with “illegals” is charged with harboring them and abetting their “crimes”

IMHO the side effect of a “looking the other way” policy, though, is that paths to legal immigration aren’t given a priority, because the defacto standard of using non-status workers provides an (incredibly uneven) power dynamic that TPTB are happy to enforce, as well.

As a current immigrant myself, I can attest to the process being onerous and cumbersome, but at the same time, folks aready working in a country should either be afforded a way to obtain legal status, or there needs to be a deterrent to disincentivize the process. In both cases, this is to protect the workers from exploitation.
