There is no such thing as ethical capitalism or ethical nationalism. The exploitation would continue under a system of enforced work permits, but it would be out of sight of people who would object.

IMHO the side effect of a âlooking the other wayâ policy, though, is that paths to legal immigration arenât given a priority, because the defacto standard of using non-status workers provides an (incredibly uneven) power dynamic that TPTB are happy to enforce, as well.
As a current immigrant myself, I can attest to the process being onerous and cumbersome, but at the same time, folks aready working in a country should either be afforded a way to obtain legal status, or there needs to be a deterrent to disincentivize the process. In both cases, this is to protect the workers from exploitation.
