FIGHT!!! THEY LIKE TO FIGHT!!!
Context matters. It’s interesting that you haven’t denied being a man, though.
Also, as a woman, I can assure you, it happens all the time:
Man walks into a discussion about sexism, derails the conversation, and does nothing except play a condescending robot soccer goalie, and act like a total jerk (with a “polite tone” so that he can claim he’s being oh so polite, but he’s really not) and then he completely dismisses the topic at hand.
It’s Derailing Troll 101, dude, and you’re not even very good at it.
Who’s telling who what they think?
Hey there, I admitted it was a rhetorical point. Only that my goat got got.
Which is probably all the fun he will have today. I rememebr when goat getting was exhilierating, abck when I was in my early 20’s, incapable of seeing the POV of another past the end of my own nose (nose, not penis, nose) and self centered as fuck. Not good times.
Citation for that statement? Also, even if women have overtaken men in buying comics now, historically they have indeed been the primary demographic for superhero comics - real or imagined. I hardly think that’s a controversial statement.
Also, there are plenty of great comics that appeal to a wide variety of people, and often times they do not trade in such imagery - and they appeal to all sorts of people because of that, I’d argue.
Repeatedly accusing people of derailing conversations is a form of derailing. Comic book characters don’t actually exist so they are neither in nor out of control. Consumers can choose not to buy. I moved the conversation to my own photography, using the first person as a starting point. And you can see her art easily. I mentioned her name.
Brilliantly said.
Who is offended when it’s done to them, once? Clearly only you, other people are faking it, your feelings are the only real ones. You feel stepped on, and you’re gonna step back on their toes AND get an apology for it, too.
You know better than anyone. You are omniscient.
WE GET IT.
It’s a sign of his masculine security and strength, of course. Real men crush any opposition to their will. (/sarcasm)
Sorry… not going to do your work for you. If you want to make an argument that men no longer make up the primary target audience for super hero comics or the primary CONSUMERS for comics, please do so, and when I ask for supporting evidence, don’t just blow me off. You made the point, you support it.
Now you won’t read this, but this shows an utter lack of respect to me, BTW.
And you weren’t even correct that women buy more super hero comics then men (at least in 2008):

@slickhead has been given a time out.
I’m not sure he had a “polite tone” actually.
Also, I want to like your comment, but can’t, as I have to wait 34 minutes.
Well for example, right now I’m in a cotton jersey dress with elbow-length sleeves, and tights. If my powers were, say, telepathy and telekenisis, like Jean Grey, or altering reality like Scarlet Witch … is there any particular reason I’d need to be in spandex or a strapless bustier? Wouldn’t my current PNW-mom outfit work fine? In fact, Scarlet Witch appears to be wearing a not-dissimilar outfit in the next Avengers movie. A perfectly normal and yet overtly female outfit. Not quite THX1138.
we can be generous, even if he cannot. We contain multitudes.
HFS. 120+ comments in, and you missed where that’s already been discussed?

That’s … not how it works.
Comic book characters don’t actually exist so they are neither in nor out of control.
This is just stupid and illogical. I can’t even. For fuck’s sake. Comic books do actually exist in the real world and are written by real people and are consumed by real people. The content of those comic books are actually in our control.
Consumers can choose not to buy.
Yeah, no shit! Do you think you’re telling me something I don’t actually know? Wow. You’re out of arguments, aren’t you?
And those same consumers can speak out against what is available to buy and let those who create comics know that they would like more diversity and less sexualization. And it could be about other things as well – people wanted more Firefly content, and so they created a Firefly comic. Comics are consumed by real people, who have every right to speak out about what they want or don’t want to see. And comic book creators can choose or not choose to listen to those fans That’s how this stuff works.
Why do you think comic books are having a big renaissance now, anyway? I’d argue it’s that because of the internet, people have more of a voice, and can advocate for the type of stories and characters they want to see. You can see it in all of the fun new comic books that are being created. Some of which were shared above, including Spider Gwen (which I shared). There IS more diversity. The statistics prove it. And there’s a reason for it.
I saw you say that before so I knew you’d say it again, and I countered it with the fact that consumers have choice.
Great! Maybe you’ll get less. Or maybe you’ll get other comics that give you less. Or maybe you’ll create your own the way you want them.
I’m all for it.
You are out of arguments. Do you even KNOW what you’re arguing about any more? Or do you just feel the need to ‘splain’ SO MUCH, that you have to say something? We get it. You know stuff. You have an opinion about stuff and you must let everyone know you sometimes think about stuff. Good for you.
Thank you!
