The IHF decided to fine them, The NHF is supporting the team.

In somewhat related if more heartening news, it turns out uniform requirements for the Olympic version of this competition were expanded in 2016 to offer the women more options.
If you scroll down to the index in the linked document (page 11) you can see diagrams of all the allowable uniform variations.

You could even say it attracts fascists in particular.

As much as I like looking at women’s buns, bikini bottoms and active sports like these never made any sense to me UNLESS your real goal was objectification.

Never heard of that before!

But back to the question at hand. Volleyball on beach sand - ok, bathing suit if you want. This handball thing on a court –– bathing suit, what?

Are all of the Olympic players under 18?

Even if they’re better than the other league, they still have a ways to go.

In somewhat related if more heartening news

Unfortunately, the heartening news is somewhat less related than you thought: You posted the uniform standards for beach volleyball. It would be nice if both beach-based, ball-using sports had the same uniform standards, but apparent that’s far too logical. Thanks for posting the beach volleyball standards, though - it’s nice to know at least one sport is doing better!

Oh, oops! A few commenters were talking about volleyball and no one corrected them, so I thought it must be the same thing, even though the size of the teams and the use of the term “goals” made no sense to me. Thanks for the correction.
Well, I am glad the beach volleyball stuff changed, at least!

Which is why handball goalies are superhuman creatures who can change direction in mid air.

So nice to see they provide cold weather variants of the uniform, including a nice long-sleeve top with… bikini-brief bottoms! :upside_down_face:

I’ll just quote the NYT’s piece on this that clarifies both genders uniform rules.

The International Handball Federation requires women to wear bikini bottoms “with a close fit and cut on an upward angle toward the top of the leg.” The sides of the bikini bottoms must be no more than four inches. Men, on the other hand, can wear shorts as long as four inches above their knees as long as they are “not too baggy.”

OMG, I have spent way too much time thinking about this today.
But…to add more, from the NYT article @jme referred to above:

Kare Geir Lio, the head of the Norwegian Handball Federation, said the organization would pay the fine. He said Norway had repeatedly complained about the bikini bottom requirement to the international federation since 2006. “Nothing has happened,” he said.

Since 2006!!!

And this sure puts the double standard in context, a photo of Norway’s men’s and women’s teams in 2019, in their official uniforms:

I’ll bet at least some of those young women are under 18, which technically makes photos and appearances of them in their enforced public uniform a type of child pornography.

I’m just hearing about this sport for the first time…wow!

Let 'em all wear shorts. Can’t the creeps in European Handball Federation just use their imagination when leering at the players?
