Odd Stuff (Part 3)

Wait, the BBC is paywalling stuff outside the UK now?
I thought that was only TV programmes that got that treatment.

I’ll try to remember to include an archive link in future.

Boomer here. No question, Pig Pen and all the Peanuts characters were a major part of our childhoods. I’m surprised anyone born after 1980 or so has strong memories of Peanuts at all, because they were falling out of fashion already.

They were on TV well into the 80s and even the 90s. My sister is a huge Peanuts fan! And they were still in the newspaper, too! The Christmas show is still a staple in my house to this day!

This guy, but a Boomer.

Interesting! That wasn’t the case among young families I knew, so maybe it’s regional or something.

Could be! I just remember the Peanuts were popular in our house. Might not be the case for other households. We also always watched the Sound of Music and The Wizard of Oz every year when they came on.

I do have a BBC account because of BBC Sounds. BBC 4 Extra is the greatest radio station on Earth for a comedy lover with musical anhedonia. But I tried on a another browser and it just asked that once.

The ‘X’ in the upper-right corner also works. Also, I only see these once or twice a day; I think it sets a browser cookie that’s good for an hour or two that stops them from popping up more frequently.

Sure, but then I’d (probably) welcome cookies into my device.

We’ve had some local PDs come to our English department asking for specialized Technical Writing courses. They claim to be afraid that their officers’ grammar, syntax, and general writing skills are so bad that a court will toss the cop report because they’ve used the wrong words or are unclear. Not sure if that’s possible, but it’s a sad commentary.
