Why does Oktoberfest start in September? Is the Sam Adams commercial true; is Oktoberfest actually translated as “Okay to beer fest”? I’m confused.
Prinz Ludwig married Princezzen Theresa on 12. Oktober 1810; Oktoberfest descends from a series of parties (including a horserace) held in celebration. But it’s cold in October, why not start the festivities early in Altweibersommer

Basically what @jerwin wrote, that the festival was slowly moved more and more into what we used to call Indian summer. Mostly for touristy reasons, but it does go into the first weekend of October, so it still is technically a festival to greet October, I guess.
Here, everyone just calls it the Wies’n, after the Theresienwiese.
