in the early days of “social media,” with nerdy college kids e-mailing each other and using write and talk to communicate between one computer lab and another, it did not occur to anybody that tools like these, in the hands of idiots, would one day destroy the world

Well, that’s the question. Mouse models suggest maybe some protection from ACE / ARBs and there is reason to expect that would be true, but there is also a hypothesis put forth that they could be an additional risk factor. It is known that high blood pressure is a risk factor, but I have not seen a split of treated vs. untreated hypertension. The actual data needed is not there yet. Too many unknowns.

“Russian authorities on Monday banned foreign nationals from entering the country, shut state schools and limited public gatherings in Moscow in an effort to curb the spread of coronavirus.”

“The ban on foreign nationals will be enforced from March 18 until May 1, though diplomats, airplane crew members and some other categories of people will be exempt, the government said.”

Hi smart BB people.

If I went for a walk is that endangering people?

I could wait til evening so ppl are not out shopping.

I live in a residential area, so I’d be walking streets mostly used by cars and could cross the street the rare times I see ppl.

Just trying to think creatively about how to balance public health with my mental health.

(I’d rather not go into detail but the global pandemic is one of many things going on for me. Best wishes to everyone during these trying times)

If you keep a good distance from other people, I don’t think so.

Prancing might. Don’t prance.

Message brought you by the People Concerned about Prancing (PCP).

The Ministry of Silly Walks has not yet ordered a moratorium on prancing. That shows a disturbing lack of leadership.

It has already been decided that things will just carry on as normal.
Thinking otherwise is just preposterous!!

Watching Trump bloviate. The doctors behind him look like they are in pain.

Edit: Apparently it was a humorous post that the police department made as a preventive measure, because they figured that people would be calling 911 when they run out of toilet paper.

Apologies if this has been posted already - butI know some of you own your own businesses and may find this helpful.

"Our Agency will work directly with state Governors to provide targeted, low-interest disaster recovery loans to small businesses that have been severely impacted by the situation. Additionally, the SBA continues to assist small businesses with counseling and navigating their own preparedness plans through our network of 68 District Offices and numerous Resource Partners located around the country. The SBA will continue to provide every small business with the most effective and customer-focused response possible during these times of uncertainty.”

SBA’s Economic Injury Disaster Loans offer up to $2 million in assistance for a small business. These loans can provide vital economic support to small businesses to help overcome the temporary loss of revenue they are experiencing.
Process for Accessing SBA’s Coronavirus (COVID-19) Disaster Relief Lending

The U.S. Small Business Administration is offering designated states and territories low-interest federal disaster loans for working capital to small businesses suffering substantial economic injury as a result of the Coronavirus (COVID-19). Upon a request received from a state’s or territory’s Governor, SBA will issue under its own authority, as provided by the Coronavirus Preparedness and Response Supplemental Appropriations Act that was recently signed by the President, an Economic Injury Disaster Loan declaration."

I have heard from a nurse that the ACEs and ARBs are a risk because the febrile patient typically stops taking them at some point (not by their own choice). When that happens, the angiotensin conversion is no longer inhibited, and the virus binds ACE instead. When that happens, the virus infects the tissues, causing them to malfunction, vasoconstriction occurs rapidly and the patient crashes. Even after looking like they were improving.

Just a guess. Nobody knows yet, completely.
