They don’t smoke as much as they used to in France.

And the Netherlands is reporting the same thing, only for them it’s under 50 years old, not 60.

My 89 year old FIL wanted to take my husband out to lunch for his birthday next Monday. I asked my husband what did he tell his father, and he said, “Do not fucking leave your house.”

My FIL is pretty liberal and thinks he’s funny, so I think he was trolling my husband?

My mom just posted “That moment when you’re concerned for the elderly and then you realize you ARE the elderly.”

While, much to my relief, my parents are taking this seriously and doing the right thing, I’ve nonetheless noticed such odd reversals from my youth in recent years. In particular, when my folks are home from Arizona, I’m generally the one cooking meals, and then there was the time I had to help my mother get a bandage on after she got a cut.

I’m still worried about them, though.

Turns out, relying on routing emergency compensation through unemployment insurance requires employers to fire their staff so they can claim it. Not everybody is doing that, they’re just expecting them to remain employed while working zero hours.

If you use today’s, 3/17, we are over 5000, while Italy was at 4600. So we are accelerating FASTER than Italy.

This is really intetesting, and I hope never necessary, but in the current situation almost certainly will. There are issues, which she touched on. Mostly that there is no way to individually adjust the pressures, PEEP and I:E ratios as the various patients condition changes. But as a desperation measure, I can certainly see this being useful. Like @Mercenary_Garage’s homebrew ventilator, the fact that people are thinking along these lines indicates a realization of how serious the stew we are in actually is.

In case no one here has posted this yet:

Just me thinking out loud here: I wonder how long the virus stays active ON pets, i.e., their fur and skin. Any info on that?

Okay, found something from the CDC:
