I’ve seen multiple reports like this, along with an apparently devastating viral myocarditis that hits very late in the course. This is a totally different beast than we are used to dealing with. It is very very good at killing people.
Testing was denied unless they are admitted for a severe condition. Dr basically said, “assume you have it stay home.”
This is such bullshit.
Americans, if you had to go with an older white guy for Dem leader, why Biden instead of this guy?
Normally, this would be overreaching, but this is a fucking emergency (he also understands climate is a fucking emergency, unlike Joe).
So, allow me to vent for a moment. I think I mentioned earlier that my ex is an RN working the ED. She is 55 and has some chronic health issues. They are not supplying them with N95s, so she managed to find a few on her own. When she got to work, she was told it was forbidden to use a mask because there are not enough for everyone. What kind of hellscape has this devolved into?
In ranching there is a term SSS as in “Shoot, Shovel and Shut-the-fuck-up”. Some of our countries’ (not just the US!) approaches to testing are reminding me of this. They don’t want to know the extent of the problem.
Just like ranchers who know that a positive test will shut them down, these leaders know that learning the full extent will shut society down further than it is, will demand resources beyond what’s demanded even now. And just like the SSS response in ranching, is going to do us a hell of a lot of harm.
Things will not get “back to normal” when this is up. We’re going to be having a fundamental reckoning in our society. Before then… let’s just say that I count myself very lucky to live somewhere with a robust and varied food production infrastructure. Things won’t be as cheap and plentiful, but we have something. In some places – ironically, some of those who boast of feeding the world – there isn’t the variety, and they’ve outsourced the processing. We rely a lot on imports where I am, and we’ve outsourced a lot of processing, but retained a little. It’s easier to ramp up than start from scratch. 18 months is a long time, folks.
Things are going to get hard. We’re speedrunning the entire decade of the twenties in one year, but the thirties could last longer. Buckle up, because this ride is going to get more than bumpy.
For anyone familiar with Plague Inc (the online game, not the Trump administration) Greenland and Madagascar are infected now. That is pretty much it.
It is certainly not very pleasant, but not a major biggie for adults and older teens. For younger kids? Get the cavalry!
It’s pretty clear she thought it was going to be to blow her nose and that would be it. Maybe that explains part of her reaction.
Their explanation of exponential growth at the end is worth the time to watch all by itself.
