Ongoing coronavirus happenings

This is a pandemic. If you got 4000 people on board, they will have social contacts at one point. Also, this ship travels, and not all personnel will be aboard all of the time.

The risk of catching SARS-CoV 2 is also following logistic growth curves for the moment. And it grows exponentially with the number of people you have direct contact to, I would wager. (I’m tired. I can’t to the math right now.)

Unfortunately, however, all we have at present is anecdote. One small trial indicated that the drug was somewhat effective on its own, with its effectiveness enhanced by an antibiotic. But a recent perspective on the drugs’ use noted that the trial had “serious methodological flaws,” and follow-up work lacked any negative controls to compare with the treated group. There are also indications that the trial was rushed through peer review at a journal edited by one of its authors, who has been involved with research that contains fabricated data.

Meanwhile, a small study performed in China saw no indication that the drug was effective on its own. And it’s not clear why an antibiotic, which normally targets bacteria, would enhance the effect of an antiviral treatment. Larger, properly controlled clinical trials are already in progress, but it may be months before they produce enough data for us to make evidence-based decisions here.

So actually, what we don’t have is an anecdote. We have good data suggesting no benefit and tainted data. And a narcissistic sociopath making things up and then slobbering sycophants racing to flatter him, a list of gutter filth that apparently now includes the Food and Drug Administration.

That is perfectly true. But it isn’t the city of Las Vegas or even the hospitality industry doing this. It is the shelters doing it and they have limited resources to work with.

Be outraged that the Wynn or MGM is not helping out? fine.
Being pissed that the shelters and their volunteers are doing the best they can? Yeah, fuck that.

Freedman is an idiot. He made a bad investment buying Hahnemann hospital, then continued to hemorrhage money until its closure. Instead of trying to recoup some losses by extorting the City, he should have let them use the Hospital, bring it back up to decent standard on City money, and then he could have reclaimed it post-pandemic in much better condition.

Agreed. It was more of a stunned ffs than an unrealising ffs.

Even sick, on the numbers the majority of sailors will just have a bad time, but the carrier itself isn’t under threath.

I’ve been through it and, luckily, the worst I had was very breathless and dry coughing. c.50 years old. Kids had it and had a day or two of slight symptoms.

Yes, isolation since the second I noticed anything!

But it’s a tough, tough little bugger. Flu kind of bugs out when your body attacks it, but this thing is Rocky Balboa. Doesn’t give in till it can’t get up.

…except for that Belgian cat thing.

That’s one way of putting it. His sole member privet equity firm, Paladin Healthcare LLC, purchased it along with many other assets. His financial acumen and shear will were going pull this hospital system up by its bootstraps to make it profitable. Year and a half later they declare bankruptcy. Of course the land and buildings not included in said bankruptcy. This was held as collateral by, you guessed it, his privet equity firm.

Well, it’s a start:

I wonder if Chris Cuomo’s situation hammered that home to them.

He still would have done much better financially to let the City improve the property at their expense. The property is not very valuable with a big empty and increasingly derelict hospital building on it, and I wouldn’t be surprised if the city decided not to let him tear down that building.

The hospital in Chicago where I was born has been sitting empty for 20 years, and isn’t going anywhere. Apparently even zombies are afraid to go into it at this point.

That’s what it takes, “ZOMG, real people can get this?!?!?!?”

Here’s an interesting data site, and a reminder that as some areas see success in “flattening the curve”, they’ll be hamstrung by neighboring regions that decided to go full MAGA.

But that’s not the point, he’s taking a stand on principle!

And the City now has no interest.

Fuck the airlines. Maybe with the billions of taxpayer monies they just were handed they could maybe ask a question or two or perhaps buy one fucking thermometer.
