IANAL beyond my careful TV studies, but “probable cause” seems like it’ll be necessary to raid Trump Tower, his other golf clubs, and anywhere else smeared in tiny orange fingerprints. I don’t doubt for a moment that there’s more documents in other Trumpish warrens, but the government needs to make a good case (IMHO) to go knocking down those doors.
45 and team pretty much broadcast that they had docs in Florida, didn’t they? And they were engaged in exchanges with the government about them (and spinning denials, too.)
State secrets are undoubtedly clogging the gold-veneered bowls of 45’s vast, debt-ridden empire. Rats like to line their nests.
Nor am I a lawyer, but the fact that he did his best to hide what he had in one location, seems to provide extremely good probable cause to check out others of his locations where he could have stashed documents. (Unless they are aware that they have everything, and even then I would think the possibility of copies would give them some leeway.)
Oh, I agree completely. Fleets of trucks would already be rolling up to his numerous doors were I a judge. And they may yet, as I know the wheels of justice grind slowly yet finely.
“Oh come on. You totally know he did it” is maybe not solid grounds for another warrant although “look what we found in Florida” and “certain sections/files/binders are still missing” might be damning. I’m sure there’s teams combing through the stash from
Florida, cross-checking with care.
“If you can raid a former President [whom you have probable cause to believe committed specific crimes], you raid other former President(s) [whom you have probable cause to believe committed specific crimes].”
Fixed that for ya Qtah, and Republicans in general.
Also, for a group of people who have seemingly devoted their lives to “owning the Libs” it’s surprising how often they threaten us Libs with a good time.
Early on in the Maralago raid news cycle, some people speculated that nuclear secrets were involved.
In court filings on Tuesday, the DOJ revealed a May 11 grand jury subpoena that sought, among many other documents, those marked “S/FRD,” which stands for “formerly restricted data.” According to public Energy Department documents, that could include information that would indicate the exact strength, size, and current locations of the country’s nuclear weapons, as well as the way they’re stored and kept safe.
“Formerly” does not mean unclassified. It’s still secret, though that given that much has been said about Trumps ability to declassify things with his mind, the “Formerly” may theoretically remove the last remaining legal impediment to doing so,
As the DOD explains:
Formerly Restricted Data (FRD)
Classified information that has been removed from the Restricted Data category after DOE and DoD jointly determine that it
relates primarily to the military utilization of atomic weapons and
can be adequately safeguarded in a manner similar to NSI
delay, delay, whoops, wouldn’t be fair to “interfere with an election”, delay, delay, holy shit the republicans managed to win an election, delay, delay, delay, nothing matters, holy shit, why is joe biden in jail, We cannot get out. We cannot get out. They have taken the bridge and the Second Hall.
I wonder if, among the many who handled those documents, various of the former guy’s lawyers and legal staff handled and read the material. They would be not privileged to know secret, top secret, classified and confidential information, as they themselves were never POTUS, military, or WH staff.
The ever-spreading pool of people in a position to further the damage done is hard to fully grasp. We all know the quality of former guy hirees and if such people are unpaid (or not!), they may monetize and leverage whatever they have at their disposal to pay themselves.
A security mop-up operation for decades.
If it can be done at all.
Damn, he fucked over our justice system for a generation. When the only qualification that matters is unquestioning personal loyalty, this is the result.
