Nah, I think sixteen cloth sacks oughta do it.
Almost certainly it opened with the prayer.
The Iranian coronavirus task force?
Re: Only four members of President Trump’s coronavirus task force have any scientific or medical training.
That’s quite all right. After all, their task isn’t to do anything against the virus. Their task is to spin the news, make the administration look good and make sure everybody stays on message.
Prayers, that’s how the Christian nationalists roll. It’s going to take a very big lever to pry them loose if Trump loses.
They began with a prayer, the paper’s sources said. Attendees also prayed at various times throughout the session.
This is an official meeting in the White House to discuss an action plan for the national response to a pandemic. Most of the leaders in the medical research and response areas are women…I see what looks like 2 ‘support staff’ women on the edges of the group, only. So this is very much a case of representatives of our federal government prescribing a specific religious response INSTEAD OF turning to experts to solve a major crisis.
This is what it looks like when the government actively subverts the First Amendment.
Tis a fine line between intermittent prayer and nodding off.
No. Fuck that.
As for their “feelings” when they don’t give a shit about their fellow human beings who are not of their “faith”…
Not if you give in to their bigoted world view, no. You won’t. None of us will.
Then take a break, recharge, and find people in your community to support you. Life is a struggle, and it always will be, but that doesn’t mean it has to be a joyless, isolated one. Find community where you are, and take care of yourself when you need to do so.
Right? I have no problem with folks of other faiths… I do have a problem with them expecting me to be a part of that, when I have a different system of values. I’m happy to respect theirs within reason, as long as they respect mine.
This kind of response by said team is EXACTLY the only one tha a majority of Trump’s base cares about.
Charles Hawtrey as Mitch McConnell?
Yes!
And Barbara Windsor as Melania.
I’d also suggest Hattie Jacques as Nancy Pelosi, but none of Jacques’s characters would have put up with Trump’s bullshit for as long as Pelosi did.
Actually, Hattie as Melania, Babs as Ivanka.
A 2006 meta analysis on 14 studies concluded that “There is no scientifically discernable effect for intercessory prayer as assessed in controlled studies”.
Pray harder, guys.
It’s a much more uplifting photo if you view them not as praying but as collectively hanging their heads in abject shame.
It is, but the association of “shame” with that crowd requires more of a suspension of disbelief than I can manage.
Seriously?
Their “active position” appears to be completely around controlling the message and reassuring investors.
I do know people in government (mostly in the State Department), and they are routinely affected by proclamations by our leadership. At the very least, it’s demoralizing to be contradicted by “the figurehead” when you’ve spent years becoming an expert at your post. Then, you get to deal with the cognitive dissonance of convincing everyone else that they should listen to you and ignore the leadership.
Leadership matters. 45 is making life difficult for the people on the ground. He’s a suck on their time and energy.
