I was thinking that this would be an interesting time for photographers for this very reason.
It’s not often these places are empty in the daylight hours.
This would be an interesting time for me to visit Italy as I do not like being around other people for more than a few hours.
Just because you have a DSLR and an Insta account doesn’t mean you can wander around freely like accredited media… I’m guessing… these spots are empty for a reason.
That thread is alarming and it should wake us and our leadership up now.
Italy reported 600 cases 11 days.
The US reported 600 cases yesterday.

Yes, because everyone is actually sick or terrified of getting sick. These are public places, Italy hasn’t declared marshal law.
People who have already been infected and got well afterwards should be able to walk around in those places with little risk. Maybe if the situation gets even worse, everyone like that who sould be immune will be drafted into doing necessary work like caring for the ill.
Yup. Doing all my location shooting today!
Interesting. I keep reading about - and seeing pictures showing - how the Italians are still congregating in public spaces and public health officials are pulling their hair out in response. But it probably varies a lot from location to location. Some areas that are usually crowded with now-non-existent tourists like Venice are going to be empty just because of that dynamic.
On the other hand, I just saw some video of a police car rolling through the streets in Italy at night, blaring a message to stay indoors…
If William Gibson ever does a novel about what happened during the Jackpot, he’ll have ready-made photo illustrations.
I still wonder about the logistics of putting an entire city on lock down. How are you going to feed millions of people if no one is to leave their home?
It’s photos like this that make my hyper active imagination go into overdrive. Want to know how the lizard people / replicants showed up in mass numbers? There you go.
Sadly, we know re-infection may well be possible; there have been some cases of recovery and re-infection. So people who have already had it won’t necessarily be immune to it.
Frankly, this worries me about the hope for a vaccine…
Even the pigeons in St. Mark’s Square appear to be staying home.
Good lord…I would brave coronavirus just to be in Venice without millions of tourists.
Hence the need to horde toilet paper/rolls… or so the thinking goes.
I can see market right now for bio-hazard suit walking tours or bio suit bicycle tours or bio suit segway tours or …
The grand kid walked by while I was looking at the article’s pics and said “That looks like stuff I’d take screen caps of in Division 2” which is his favorite post-apocalyptic game.
