Small door from small plane makes big headlines.
Well, most of the plane anyway.
When questioned, the mangled door replied, “It was worth it! I’d do it again!”
There was Bombardier private jet that lost both engines and crashed on the highway the other day. They haven’t said the cause, but if it was mechanical failure, add it to the pile catastrophic maintenance failures
I remember from my private pilot days that there were aerobatic versions of the Cessna 150 designed so that in case they go into trouble and needed to parachute from the plane, the doors were designed to be detachable. (Basically, there was a mechanism that could be operated to detach the hinge side of the door.)
I have to wonder if this is what happened.
