That’s (to a large degree) oil money, which doesn’t trickle down - if you’d kept reading, you’d see that Texas is 29th in per capita income among states. Plus they’re not doing so well in terms of poverty, child abuse (leading the nation in child abuse deaths!), creationists have a huge influence on the education system, etc.

The top state economy for the past three years has been North Dakota as fracking is allowed for the most part. Does that mean they have a good long-term plan?

I invite you to visit West and South Texas for a while. Your views may change dramatically. We have plenty of tent living, ground sleeping, militia armed for bear who can show you another viewpoint.

Heck, a common West Texas job is still Cowboy. These guys travel fence lines for a living which stretch for hundreds of miles and may not see the inside of a building for a month at a time. Any talk of gun control around those guys may end you up in a seldom seen gully.

pssst… It’s actually mainly information technology, aerospace, and manufacturing. Oil and agriculture are big economic drivers but do not account for the growth Texas enjoys. We give HUGE tax breaks, free land, subsidized construction, etc to companies relocating to Texas.

That number is greatly effected by low skilled low income labor coming across our border. The laws are setup to keep those people poor and without power. It’s really close to if not outright slave labor happening down here.
The average household income is actually 25th in the US but Texas’ lower than average cost of living off sets that quite a bit.
