Not only do Cavalier King Charles have smooshy faces, they have skulls that are too small for their brains, causing a painful neurological disease called syringomyelia. It’s almost like inbreeding is as bad for dogs as it is for royalty. So cute!
Same!
The floor is open for name nominations.
Chuck?
Chucky?
Charlie?
Chaz?
Eunice?
Also worth noting that a Frenchman still holds the record for longest (European) reign at 72 years.
Vive le Republic.
And for Canadians having a Queen was a way of distinguishing themselves from Americans (well, that and retaining non-phonetic spellings like “centre” and “colour”).
Iirc, his third name is Arthur. That would be pretty badass.
He has a lot of middle names…George is straight out…perhaps Philip? Too French and/or Spanish. Definitely not Arthur, that wouldn’t be OK at all. Meh, stick with Charles and see where it goes.
[edt] @SheiffFatman: We have a bit of difference in opinion! Chuck is not badass, IMO, probably not even a legend in his own mind, either.
My wife was laughing reading something on her phone.

Artie?
Rumours have been floating around for years that he would reign as George VII, so don’t rule it out just yet.
The last King of England called Philip is not remembered fondly:
I didn’t mean to imply he was! But if I had the chance to be known as King Arthur, there is no way I’d pass it up.
The role of the Icelandic president is somewhat similar to that in Ireland; officially, they are said to stand above politics and bring the nation together. But the Constitution gives the President a right of veto over legislation.
Most recently in 2010, President Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson refused to countersign the Icesave 2 bill which would have ended a financial dispute between Iceland, the Netherlands and UK caused by the bankrupt Landsbanki in which domestic customers had been compensated by the Icelandic state, but not those of Landsbanki’s overseas operations. It all got very nasty with the UK in particular playing hardball even as the Icelandic economy collapsed.
The bill had been overwhelmingly passed by the Althing, but Ólafur Ragnar said it was unfair on Icelanders as there was no national legislation requiring Icelandic banks to repay foreign customers. His veto precipitated a nationwide referendum on the bill which was rejected by 93% of the electorate. He then caused another referendum on a revised bill which was rejected by 60% of voters.
Unsurprisingly, Ólafur Ragnar was re-elected in 2012; but chose not to stand in 2016 when he was succeeded by Guðni Thorlacius Jóhannesson who, so far, hasn’t been too controversial.

Technically, she was never heir apparent, as she could in theory have been bumped down the line of succession by the birth of a brother. She was only ever heir presumptive.

Better’n at–put him on the $2 for the perennially entertaining “2-Buck Chuck” or even the $10 for a “Sawbuck Chuck”. But then you’d have to look at him.
May our memory and nostalgia
Never cloud the truth
May we hold in tension
Our entertainment
Our fascination
Our indoctrinated fairy tale culture
With the legacy
Of colonization
Imperialism
The transatlantic slave trade
The sun that never set
On oppression
May we separate the crown
And the woman
And as we bury an era
May we never bury
History
Truth
Freedoms and reparations yet to be received

I appreciated Melissa Murray’s take on her perception of QEII/her legacy from a Jamaican-American perspective. The snippet picks up the thread halfway through; but the entire thread is worth a read.
