I think he’s just gotten too full of himself. Once upon… felt incredibly self-indulgent, and the few before that only marginally less so. Also annoying to those watching who are not already familiar with the history that’s being altered there; I didn’t get most of it until I went to Wikipedia after watching it. It’s frustrating because it’s not like he’s lost his stuff: the part with DiCaprio’s character on the western serial film set being confronted with his attitude and in his shame deciding to reapply himself was great.
I think that, kind of like Lucas around Phantom Menace, Tarantino needs limitations placed on him and people telling him “no”. Stop wallowing, drop that dumb 10 movie limit, step way outside your comfort zone. Film a 12 episode direct-to-Netflix science fiction series on an iPhone, or something. Or if you don’t enjoy it anymore, stop.
Others may scoff, but I would love to see this happen.
I fantasize that much to his surprise, he actually got the go-ahead (and total creative control) from the Trek powers-that-be – and the chance was too shiny – shiny! – for him to bother with another mere Hollywood-centric project.
I know I’m not the only Trek fan that would love to see this. I think a lot of the actors would love it, too.
Yeah, I didn’t mention that one because I’m pretty sure it’s more widely known. I haven’t seen Hateful Eight, but my dad said it had a bunch of stuff like that in it too.
