Recently sunken Russian warship may have been carrying a piece of the cross that Jesus died on

Maybe this proves it wasnt a real piece of the cross, because it didn’t float?

Now what we need is a duck…

I’m surprised we made it 91 posts with nobody posting this:

That’s why it’s always stuck my as odd that a device of torture is revered like this. Explains a lot about modern so-called Christians.

Crosses don’t kill people, nails do!!

There’s some confusion there.

You mean, like, medals with Saints on them, right? They aren’t sending you digits of actual Saints, are they? Or is that a top reward tier?

And as charities go, IIRC, Catholic Charities do give a majority of their funds to projects for the poor etc.

Both! No idea if she’s top tier donator or anything. Here’s my current keychain. The front is a pic of St. Anthony. On the back is the pic below. No idea what is in that black square. Might have been some of his hair (maybe?), if I remember the letter correctly. It’s no splinter of the True Cross, but I feel like he’s got my back…unlike that lousy Saint Symphorian. Antonio’s pretty high up there in the league.

I’ve yet to see someone define what there supposedly being an historical Jesus means, though, anymore than Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter being based on a real person does. It doesn’t tell us a darn thing, I’d say, about the veracity of any of the stories in the bible. Nor do real historical events in the bible mean there was a historical Jesus any more than Jack Reacher is proven true because there was a cold war.

So, I dunno about a historical cross. But I’m sure you cold build more than a few houses with all the supposed fragments of the true cross put together as particle board

Oh for sure. It doesn’t really mean anything that he was likely a real guy who probably started a cult (or Luke did based on his writings 100 years later, I don’t think it’s clear). I don’t think “Jesus was a real guy” is really useful information other than it’s good to get the facts straight on what we can know beyond the poorly translated poetry and muddled, nonsensical stories that fill the bible.

Just to clarify that point- the evidence for Jesus having been a real guy who lived at the time isn’t from the bible itself. It’s based on external sources, as I understand it, because the bible itself doesn’t have much value for actually dating or placing events or people.

No, freedom actually. They told me I was to go free.

St. Anthony is especially invoked as the patron saint for the recovery of lost items. Having a medieval AirTag on your keychain makes perfect sense.

I can’t help but imagine a little squeak when the erect cross is lowered.

Likely a contact relic. I.e. something that has been in contact with an actual relic and gets some of it’s properties. Looks like yours is a piece of fabric.

A common misconception. The old, established Saints all have a huge backlog. You want results, you give the job to one of the newly minted guys.

Implying some are real. Like the nails they used, some of which I own. Just let me get them from my garage, and I’ll contact you with a price. Would you prefer spiraled or galvanized, I have both?

I did not intend to imply that. “Virtually” is just a word I throw around a lot at the start of my sentences for emphasis. Apologies if that was misleading. I also see no reason to believe any of the pieces are real.

You should look into Saint Nicola, he’s for the kids, like Wu Tag.
