Captain America #1 is dated March 1941, but the practice was to predate books so they’d stay on the newsstands longer. It actually arrived on newsstands on Dec 20, 1940.

Yes, a lot of people forget how controversial that cover was at the time. Hitler still had a lot of fans in the United States back in 1941. Joe Simon and Jack Kirby got a lot of death threats over that comic.

JP as an activist, political and religious figurehead is less so–his ideas need to be read in a holistic social (not isolated intellectual) context⁃ Seemingly innocuous ideas can have a problematic thread or undertow, and can be used to endorse or validate violent movements, and these ideas can be spread by a charismatic leader who mixes religious sermon with political claims; ‘life coaching’ is a Trojan horse for a reactionary political agenda as a replacement for progressive politics

William Stephenson was a Canadian spy whose job it was to bring the US into the war. He had help from FDR and people in the media. Especially Hollywood, where all studio heads were Jewish.
Warner Brothers was especially keen to fly the Anti-Nazi flag early on.
